Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s School of Social Work has an opening for a contractual Senior Research Analyst.  The person is this position will have strong quantitative expertise and interest in applied developmental research in low-income communities. The Senior Research Analyst will compile and interpret research data; establish and maintain databases, develop quality assurance; and provide final interpretations to others. The initial full-time appointment will be for one year starting on August 1, 2021, with the possibility of a renewal depending on available funding. Under the mentorship of Dr. Brenda Jones Harden, the duties for the position include contributing to evaluations of two high-quality early care and education programs and a longitudinal study on early adversity.

  • Responsible for conducting advanced analysis and support for research programs in order to promote a culture of assessment and evidence based decision making.
  • Independently conduct research assignments that include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements. The Senior Research Analyst is recognized as a subject matter expert and completes the highly complex work critical to the department. Assignments and projects are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity.
  • Coordinating data collection in early care and education centers and in families’ homes.
  • Managing data (data merging, organization, IRB submissions, survey development).
  • Analyzing data (descriptive, regression, multivariate analyses).
  • Writing reports for practitioners and teachers with appropriate data visuals.
  • Presenting to practitioner staff and community partners about research findings.
  • Conducting classroom and home observations.
  • Supervising and mentoring of other research staff.
  • Preparing publications and conference presentations (collaboratively and as lead author).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Social Science, Public Policy, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Science or Services or in a field of study related to the research.  Ph.D. in Psychology, Education, Human Development, Social Work, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years related experience in a research environment required. Experience in SAS, STATA, SPSS, and/or Excel preferred.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.  Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with teachers and other practitioners
  • Expertise in quantitative methodology
  • Experience in both large-scale datasets and small-scale original studies
  • Beginning track record of publication
  • Excellent academic writing skills
  • A passion for communicating research for non-research audiences
  • Experience conducting program evaluations and/or research in low-income communities is preferred.
 The Hiring Range for this position is in the low to mid $50,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
