Job Description:

Campus Living is currently seeking Community Academic Leaders. The Community Academic Leader focuses efforts on providing experiences to residents in support of their academic success at ECU. Each CAL will have a role that will support ECU’s commitments to improving retention and graduation rates.
The CAL is expected to fulfill the following general roles and responsibilities:
• Administrator: complete all necessary paperwork, forms, and tasks as required, attend scheduled shifts, and know the staff manual protocols
• Programmer: produce programs to support academic initiatives including, but not limited to: Pirate Weeks of Welcome, academic kick-offs, study sessions/class connections, panels, registration awareness/advising, academic resource fairs, and semester-at-a-glance, and Honored Instructors
• Communicator: clearly convey what services are available to residents regarding academic success. Use creative ways to provide necessary information to resident and staff regarding best practices and options to support academic success and build academically focused communities within the residence halls
• Collaborator: work with Residence Life staff and ECU offices/departments to offer opportunities to residents including, but not limited to: tutoring, advice and a slice, in-hall peer advising, food for thought, review sessions, Starfish support, and ongoing RA development and training. Regularly attend hall staff meetings to work together on offering programming opportunities to residents. Work with hall leaders to support academically focused programs
• Referral Agent: know campus resources and departmental functions to work with residents to connect each to resources as appropriate, and keep supervisor informed as appropriate of referrals made
• Team Member: attend all training sessions, support staff team and help when needed, maintain positive communication with staff and all CL employees, support CL efforts, and recruit for open CL positions
• University Representative: serve as a positive role model, serve the needs of on-campus residents and families, be mindful of social media tags/ posts, and represent CL and ECU positively
