Primary Function of Organizational Unit :

The Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS) at East Carolina University began in 1967 with a degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. The first students graduated in 1969. Currently, the department has the following degree programs: B.S. in Rehabilitation Services, M.S. in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in addictions, M.S. in Rehabilitation and Career Counseling, and Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling and Administration; both masters programs and the doctoral program are CACREP accredited. The department also has the following graduate certificate programs: Military and Trauma Counseling (MTC), Rehabilitation Counseling (RC), and Substance Abuse Counseling (SAC). DARS also supports a faculty-directed, student operated counseling clinic called the Navigate Counseling Clinic.

Job Duties :

The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of Clinical, Addictions, and Rehabilitation Counseling. Responsibilities include mentored research associated with the Navigate Counseling Clinic (Navigate), inclusive of Project Engage Eastern NC (Engage ENC) and Suicide Education & Awareness at ECU (SEA@ECU). Mentored research activities will be developed and implemented in collaboration with your assigned postdoctoral scholar mentor, as well as the Navigate Assistant Director of Research. Duties include: hypothesis development, literature review, oversight of project specific UMCIRB processes, collection of pilot data, report writing, and supervising of undergraduate research students and graduate research students, overseeing data collection procedures, supervising experimental procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of research hypothesis using appropriate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations, publications, and applications for external funding. Additional duties include the participation in ECU postdoctoral scholar professional development activities. Postdoctoral scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct ofresearch and human subjects training. Approximately 60% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to data collection, data analysis, development and dissemination ofindependent and collaborative publications and presentations, development of applications for external funding, and participating in ECU postdoctoral scholar professional development activities. Approximately 40% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.

Minimum Education/Experience :

English Proficiency;
Excellent in written and oral communication skills;
PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP accredited program or closely related field.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Project coordination of counseling-related research Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, NVivo) Possession of or eligibility for NC licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor
