Primary Purpose of Position:

The Research Administrator (RA) will serve as a point of contact for proposal
preparation and outreach activities, acting as the liaison between the University and
external sponsors for outgoing proposals, incoming subcontracts and award transfers
from other institutions to UNC Charlotte as well as gathering and disseminating
information to researchers and their staff on pre- and post-award compliance issues.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Journey: Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties:

The Research Administrator (RA) will serve as a point of contact for proposal
preparation and outreach activities, acting as the liaison between the University and
external sponsors for outgoing proposals, incoming subcontracts and award transfers
from other institutions to UNC Charlotte as well as gathering and disseminating
information to researchers and their staff on pre- and post-award compliance issues.
Integrity of Niner Research (NR) Data will be ensured by reviewing proposal records
and reports, analyzing data and conveying proper procedures to faculty and staff alike.
The duties pertaining to outreach include managing all administrative functions of the
current Certificate Program in Grants and Contracts Administration which has been in
existence for the last 12 years, successfully graduating a new cohort of participants
each May.
In addition, this position, in consultation with the Director, will develop a
more advanced certificate program for those who need to be brought up to speed with
University policies and procedures as well as federal and state government
regulations.
The RA will independently provide consultation and program/project
administration in a program/project of moderate scope and complexity with flexible
parameters.
S/he will plan, analyze and organize daily activities, data management,
consultation and/or counseling, marketing, and business administrative duties. The
Certificate Programs in Grants and Contracts Administration fall within the parameters
of this type of project.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Graduation from a four year college or university.

Knowledge of federal and agency specific regulations and policies that impact proposal development; ability to provide advice and counsel that require an understanding of the organization and agencies that provide funding for extramural projects.

Previous experience working in proposal development/submission in a research administration role, preferably in a university setting; experience should include guideline review, budget development and proposal assembly for submission.

Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification, strongly desirable.

Working knowledge of S2S submissions along with Grants.gov Workspace, Research.gov/Fastlane, NIH Assist/eRA Commons, etc. along with private submission systems. Is able to give examples of current experience.

Experience working in a university setting with an InfoEd implementation is a plus.

Willingness and ability to convey and extend excellent customer service to our constituents.

Ability to adapt to workload changes and respond to short turn-around times in order to meet set deadlines.
Attention to detail.

Demonstration of a commitment to do what it takes to get the job done.

Ability to work with a level of independence that requires minimal supervision.

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
