Requirements

Senior AV Technician, Information Services Technology - Georgetown University Law Center

The Senior AV Technician is a member of Georgetown University Law Center's Information Systems Technology Audiovisual and Instructional Technology groups. They oversee the technical operation and maintenance of all audiovisual systems, including classrooms, event spaces and conference rooms in addition to other supported spaces during the evening shift, as well as the exploration, research, purchase, inventory, installation and integration of equipment and services in department supported facilities. Reporting to the Director of Operations and Client Services, the Senior AV Technician has duties that include but are not limited to:

Oversight
  • Manage daily operation and oversight of multimedia and audiovisual equipment in classrooms, conference rooms, event spaces and mock trial spaces, including investigation, troubleshooting issues, and delegation of duties to AV staff
  • Provide conferencing support for faculty and staff as it pertains to their classes
  • Monitor, respond, resolve, and close help desk tickets on a daily basis


Planning
  • Attend planning meetings with multiple departments for upcoming events
  • Identifying all resource requirements to ensure that client needs are met and that events are staffed and operated correctly.


Maintenance

Perform routine and complex maintenance on all equipment and software related to classroom, event and conferencing operations.

Equipment and Software
  • Research new technologies
  • Develop solutions to current and foreseen AV issues
  • Recommend purchase of new equipment and/or software
  • Keep current inventory of all AV equipment and software licenses


Vendors

Work with various audiovisual vendor partners to initiate and complete department projects and scheduled repairs

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree OR 7 years of audiovisual experience - preferably in an educational, conference center, and/or hotel environment
  • Expert knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of audiovisual systems including lecture capture software, digital and analog audiovisual interfaces, video conferencing hardware/software, and television production equipment
  • Ability to manage both small and large AV projects, as well as multitask, often working under stress to complete tasks that require complex set-up and operation
  • Professional understanding of the following AV technologies: digital switchers, digital audiovisual systems and computer interfaces, video capturing software, Zoom and other video conferencing systems, digital video and audio editing software, light boards, cloud storage such as Google Apps and Box
  • General proficiency in working with Mac and PC
  • Understanding of networked audiovisual systems
  • Proficiency in use of Google productivity tools, including Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office365 productivity tools, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Superior communication skills for interaction with nationally and internationally recognized VIP guests, high level University administration and alumni, and national and local press, in addition to every day interaction with faculty, staff and students
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in use of room control systems, including Crestron and Extron systems
  • Ability to maintain an excellent level of customer service with faculty, staff, students, and guests
  • Availability and willingness to accept flexible hours and overtime


Georgetown University Law Center is located at 600 New Jersey Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001. This position work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am-3:30 pm but must remain flexible throughout the week based on staffing needs. The incumbent must be willing to work overtime, evenings, and weekends if needed.
