Position Title: ITS Network Cable Technician (Reg FT)

General Summary: Provide assistance with the planning, implementation, and support of college operations, projects, and strategic initiatives. Provide the installation, termination, testing, and documentation of structured network cabling throughout the college in support of both daily operations and ongoing strategic projects. Provide testing and troubleshooting of infrastructure related problems, and work collaboratively with the appropriate teams to resolve the problems.

Requirements:

Associate degree and two years' related experience or a minimum of four related years' working experience in information technology field in lieu of educational degree. CNCI or BICSI certifications highly preferred. Certifications in Panduit, Corning, Leviton, Comm-Scope, or Systimax preferred. Background or in construction, operating power tools, and interpreting architectural color coded blueprints and schematics as well as education or certifications related to communications technology are preferred. Knowledge of current cabling standards and codes. Knowledge of ground up installation. Ability to handle more than one responsibility at a time, and work under deadline pressures. Strong communication, customer service, organizational, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and time management skills. Must be a highly motivated individual who is eager to grow, learn, and gain new skills in a fast-paced environment.

This position will be required to report to any CCAC location to provide the necessary support.

Physical Requirements: Frequently requires physical exertion to reach, bend, and stand for long periods of time, crawling into tight areas, including under desks. Must be able to work on ladders, and in high locations. Must be able to move, lift, carry, and push multiple heavy objects each weighing up to 50 pounds throughout each work day. Frequently involves exposure to dusty areas behind desks, office furniture, etc.


Duties:
  • Installation, terminations, and testing of Cat 5e/6/6a Structured Cabling Systems according to industry standards such as EIA/TIA, BICSI, NEC.


  • Installation, termination, and testing of various types of low voltage cabling.


  • Trace and troubleshoot data cabling, coax, fiber optic multi conductor twisted pair. Use test equipment and appropriate hand tools as needed during installation or repair.


  • Installation of related hardware such as desktops, laptops, surveillance cameras, VOIP phones, and wireless access points.


  • Label and properly manage cables.


  • Manage cable trays, patch panel installation and patch cabling preferred.


  • Maintain and complete accurate record keeping and processing of paperwork.
  • Actively participate on assigned projects, including cross-functional college-wide technology initiatives.

  • Work cooperatively with staff within the Information Technology Services Department, Facilities Division, and other divisions of the college to accomplish departmental, divisional and institutional goals as assigned.


  • Travel to all campus and center locations and/or reporting location; schedule will vary based on project needs.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.



  • Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
