Position Description:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean, serve as Director of Career Services for the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs' Career Services Center. Serve the career development needs of 450 full-time Masters and Doctoral students and 7000 alumni for the Departments of Public Policy, Social Welfare and Urban Planning. Work closely with Department Chairs and Student Affairs Officers to coordinate career-related programming efforts.

Develop and enhance relationships with employers and alumni that recruit the School's graduates, both domestically and internationally. Team with External Programs to closely coordinate the external outreach efforts of the three academic departments. Represent the School at numerous networking events, career fairs, and recruitment events. Communicate regularly with the departments' alumni councils to involve alumni in the School's career development activities. Develop and maintain relationship with the UCLA Career Center.

Responsible for organizing a series of events throughout the academic year that includes career-oriented workshops, presentations, and panel discussions. Act as the lead contact for the Career Services Center regarding career activities. Coordinate employer information sessions and on-campus interviews. Conduct a series of career-related workshops relevant to all three academic departments, such as self-assessment, networking, utilizing available career resources, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and negotiating.

Maintain CareerView, the School's online employment database. Develop employee relations strategy, manage employer profiles and postings and serve as primary point of contact for employers, alumni and students that are navigating the system. Post jobs and create bi-monthly job digests and/or newsletters for the students. Create online and hard copy student resume books. Conduct salary and employment surveys on an annual basis. Create and maintain online resource guides for various career-related skill sets (interviewing, resume writing, etc.), employment areas (government, non-profit, private, etc.) and policy/concentration areas (transportation, environment, affordable housing, etc.)

Create and develop new programs to support the career development of Public Affairs students while externally growing and enhancing the School's reputation among a wide array of organizations that are of interest to Public Affairs graduates. Support new and current career initiatives of the Dean's staff and other Public Affairs staff when called upon to do so. Create annual performance goals and discuss results with Executive Director and department Chairs.
