General Job Description/Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Success (ADSIS) is responsible for planning and promoting a broad spectrum of campus activities, the management of resources, and the implementation of practices, policies, and programs all of which will cultivate a vibrant/active social life, help nurture student leadership development, and contribute to the retention of 2,400 undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Redlands.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a collaborative environment with on and off campus partners, advising and managing event staff, and supervising student organizations, as well as the ability to plan, execute, and assess programs, policies, events, and activities. The is a full-time,48 week, professional staff position reporting to the Director of Student Involvement and Success.
The Responsibilities of the Position Include (but are not limited to):
The ADSIS supervises two Graduate Assistants, and two undergraduate interns and advises the Associated Students of the University of Redlands (ASUR) cabinet members overseeing Recognized Student Organizations and Social Affairs. In addition to supervision of staff, the ADSIS is responsible for the management, planning, execution, and assessment of major student events related to ASUR Social Affairs, New Student Orientation and programming, and the oversight of recognized student organizations to include local Greek organizations with a rich history at the University of Redlands.
In addition, the ADSIS will be tasked with supporting students in transition, to include first-year and transfer students, with a focus on their entry into the University community, and seniors, leading up to their departure from the University. Partnerships with programs, services and personnel across campus will require the successful candidate to be skilled in collaboration, and creativity.
Serving as a member of the SIS team, all members will demonstrate accountability, initiative, ownership, pride, and will maximize resources to provide robust programs, services, advising, and trainings.
- ASUR Social Affairs
- Closely advise, manage, and train the ASUR Vice President of Social Affairs and their committee
- Develop a robust schedule of events each semester (Fall, Spring, and May) that enrich and educate the community, build school spirit and tradition, is responsive to student needs and interests,
- Coordinate logistical needs of the Associated Students of the University of Redlands (ASUR) Social Affairs Committee
- Aligns programs and events with Student Affairs Learning Outcomes and values
- Enhance programing through collaboration with varied stakeholders from across campus to include the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Community Service Learning, Recreation, Outdoor Programs and others, as appropriate and is in collaboration with, or serves as a complement to other programs that are hosted throughout the academic year.
- Student Transitions
- Create and implement programming initiatives specific to the needs of students in transition to include first-year students, transfers, and seniors.
- Assume a lead role in the delivery of orientation programs for new and transfer students to include selection, training and supervision of orientation leaders, the development of each program’s schedule, the cultivation of collaborative partnerships across campus, and fiscal oversight.
- Recognized Student Organization Oversight
- Closely advise, manage, and train the Associated Students of the University of Redlands (ASUR) Vice President of Student Organizations, Clubs and Organizations Committees and the elected student representatives.
- Oversee policy and procedure training, organizational and financial management practices and assist with conflict resolution in support of one-hundred plus recognized student organizations.
- Plan and collaborate with University student recognized clubs and organizations to coordinate weekend programing and supporting large scale events
- Manage the implement of the University’s student engagement software, currently Presence.
- Student Policy Management
- Provide oversight and accountability (in cooperation with Community Standards and Well-Being) for party policy, and lead efforts to advance a positive, safe, engaging programming model.
- Manage and advise the student led Part Policy Committee.
- Manage and advise the Greek Life GAMMA Chairs and party safety and educations for the Greek Community.
- Facilitate workshops and programs to support student development and student safety. This will include opportunities to support leadership training and development, the facilitation of Sober Host training, as well as community service partnerships, a hallmark of the University of Redlands.
- Assist in the management of student polices related to student organizations, advertising, and programing to insure inclusion and equitable access, support, and expectations for all students.
- Demonstrate and support the University’s commitment to equity and inclusion through meaningful and impactful engagement with students, and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- The ADSIS will serve on various divisional and campus committees, assist with assessment efforts needed to advance SIS initiatives and interests, support diversity and inclusion
- Manages communication about student practices, polices, and events to students related to Student Affairs Social Media, newsletters, and campus programs.
Years of experience: 2-3 in related field
Academic credentials: Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education or related field.
Skill Set: team building and leadership, event management experience, conflict resolution, and communication – preferably in a Higher Education environment
Master’s Degree Higher Education or related field.
Experience mentoring, supporting, and engaging with a diverse population of college-age students.
