Position Summary:
The Academic Support Department houses the Academic Support Professionals, Accommodation & Disability Services, the Counseling Center, the Tutoring Center, and the Testing Center to provide a wide range of academic and student support services and programs to more than 3900 undergraduates at ABAC. The Counseling Center offers individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis counseling in an environment that is inclusive and free from discrimination.
Under the direction of the Director of Academic Support, the Assistant Director for Counseling Services' primary responsibility will be providing short-term personal, group, and crisis counseling to the general student population of ABAC. Additionally, the Assistant Director will lead the Counseling Team and serve as the advisor to the CARE Team, which supports students on an active watch list. Also, this position will assist the Counseling Team with the delivery of a variety of student educational and outreach programs. This position is a benefited full-time, professional staff member.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Primary-Counseling Provide short-term personal, group, and crisis counseling services to students and make appropriate referrals.Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Academic Support on early alert interventions.Plan and conduct workshops focused on mental wellbeing for the college -in person and online.Plan and conduct a comprehensive suicide prevention program.Maintain all relevant legal, ethical, and professional standards of practice for professional counseling in the state of GeorgiaProvide culturally competent, evidence-based intervention servicesProvide crisis counselingOther duties as assigned by the director
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or higher in counseling, clinical psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or a related fieldFull licensure to independently provide counseling services in the state of Georgia1-3 years of relevant experienceMust be responsive to high demand for services while managing unexpected crisis situationsStrong written and verbal communication skills and experience working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff Must be self-motivated and possess organization skills for independent workProfessionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a team environmentAbility to balance tasks and prioritize in response to changing demandsExperience working with multicultural issues, including age, gender, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and educational levels represented within the college population
- Knowledge of the laws that pertain to providing counseling services.General clinical skills, including experience assessing and intervening with a range of disorders, concerns, and degrees of pathology and assist in analyzing problems and develop coping strategiesExperience in a college counseling center is strongly preferredAbility to develop and implement related counseling programs, services, and activitiesA commitment to providing services following the stated mission, goals, objectives, and priorities of the CollegeDemonstrated ability to work with electronic student records, such as Banner
