Reporting to the Building Manager of the David Student Union through the Maintenance Supervisor, this position will perform simple to moderately complex building maintenance tasks. In addition, this position will ensure the David Student Union, Alumni House and Commons is well-maintained, clean and safe.

Required:

Under minimal supervision, must be able to troubleshoot, make repairs and perform maintenance in various trades including simple carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical

Ability to survey a room and assess damages and make repairs

Skilled in the use of hand and power tools

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Ability to perform heavy manual labor

Ability to resolve most routine questions and be prioritize work-orders

Must be able to know when to refer questions and problems to supervisor

Basic knowledge of electrical work

Ability to be available in an on-call capacity on an as-needed basis

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license.

Experience Required: Experience in building maintenance.

Education Preferred: Certificate or extensive training in building trades

Experience Preferred: Experience in a college/university setting.

This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period;

Selected candidate must have the ability to be available in an on-call capacity on an as-needed basis;

Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-Day New Employee Orientation Program.
