HUMA is an integral part of the educational, pedagogical, and cultural life of the University as well as the greater New York metropolitan region.

Reporting to the Director of the Hofstra University Museum of Art, the Part-time Museum Educator will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Art Travelers through Time: Literacy and History through Art program. This grant funded, object-based education program targets 3rd grade students and teachers in local high-needs school districts. In collaboration with a fellow Museum Educator, this position will develop and implement the program, including curriculum development, materials development, teaching lessons in school classrooms as well as in the Museum galleries. In addition, the Part-time Museum Educator will be available to lead other group visits to the museum.

This is a part-time position, working up to 20 hours a week. In addition to teaching in the Museum galleries, the position requires travel to and from local schools.

The hours for this position are Tuesday – Friday 9:00am -2:00pm, when public schools are in session. This position is grant funded and has an appointment period of September 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022.




Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years active and appropriate teaching experience in a classroom or museum setting. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate must enjoy working with children and have demonstrated experience teaching the elementary school age population. Demonstrated experience with non-traditional, creative and inquiry-based approaches to teaching is preferred. This position requires travel to and from local schools.
