Job Summary:

Develop foundational skills in Math, Reading and/or Writing for Adult Education students. To facilitate students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate College resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available to complement the teaching and learning process and provide instruction in workforce education subjects that positively impact job-seeking/job skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Accepts and teaches classes based on varied schedules (morning, afternoon, evening and weekends) to accommodate diverse student needs and external stakeholders’ expectations of College as assigned by designated supervisor
• Assesses students using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Career Occupational Preference System (COPES), Basic Education Skills Test (BEST) or other instruments as deemed appropriate for workforce development activities for Community Campus programs on campuses and at community-based sites
• Aids in the development of curricula, including individual course syllabi as assigned
• Actively pursues and participates in professional development activities to enhance skills in various modes of instruction and knowledge of learning
• Works with colleagues to select appropriate textbooks and computerized resources for departmental adoptions, and abides by departmental decisions for textbooks and computerized resources
• May compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments
• Designs and maintains an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success
• Coordinates with academic instructors and implements the training component for workforce education training that will impact student’s job-getting/job-seeking skills
• Advises students on career based on assessments and makes appropriate referrals to college training programs, both credit and non-credit
• Maintains accurate record keeping concerning students in accordance with established procedures for the college and/or funding entities
• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
• Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major or minor in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, English, Reading or in a related field such as Education or Development Education from a regionally accredited college or university
• One (1) year of experience in counseling, employment and training or career development with college, county, or state workforce development entities

Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:

• Master’s degree in English, Reading, Writing or Education with English or ESL/ESOL
• Current or past teaching certified in related field
• Experience teaching entry level students
• Background in ESL, ESOL, and/or TESOL
• Strong background in multiculturalism, diversity, and equity

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

• Capable of managing a detailed record-keeping system for internal and external accountability
• Knowledgeable of workforce development services for special populations • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly a strong ability to communicate with individuals from various socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff and community partners.
• Ability to travel to various work sites and programs sites
• Experience with computerized systems
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Special Instructions Summary:

This position will support the SE Campus Adult Basic Education program and help transition students into academic coursework.

The individual selected for this position may also be required to teach co-requisite courses in English and support ESL/ESOL instruction.
