Description
The Associate Scientist in the Cardiovascular Research Center performs or assists in cardiac surgery in small and large animals, echocardiography, and hemodynamic measurement. Responsible for following IACUC policies and maintaining anesthesia usage records as mandated by the IACUC. The Associate Scientist uses functional expertise to establish policies and procedures, identify and analyze complex problems, and change or innovate existing procedures or techniques.

Responsibilities include: Performing or assisting with small and large animal surgery, echocardiography, and hemodynamic measurement; keeping accurate records of anesthesia usage; maintaining accurate records of all experiments; documentation, management, and analysis of scientific data; ensuring staff adhere to all policies, procedures and professional standards within the lab; establishing internal and external relationships; acting as a communication conduit on matters of operational and strategic importance; maintaining laboratory equipment in working order. May contribute to manuscript and grant writing and supervise trainees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: Doctorate Degree and at least four years of Postdoctoral experience.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Some background in small and large animal cardiac surgery.*Familiarity with human physiology, in-vivo echocardiography, and hemodynamics.*Must be able to organize and execute specific experiments with independence, while also interacting effectively with other members of the laboratory to best utilize available resources.*Must be able to communicate well and follow directions.*Must accurately and promptly record laboratory procedures, methods, events and results in the laboratory daily as the procedures are performed.

This is a grant funded position.
