Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Setting: The Department of Educational Research Methodology is housed within the School of Education at UNC Greensboro. UNCG is one of the three original University of North Carolina system campuses, is one of four doctoral-granting institutions of the sixteen-campus university system, and has a long-standing commitment to academic excellence. UNCG was established in 1891 as the first public college for women in North Carolina. The first African American students were admitted in 1956 and UNCG became coeducational in 1962. With over 20,000 students, UNCG is a Doctoral R2 (research-intensive), community-engaged campus. UNCG is a diverse campus with students that are ~67% female, ~35% African American, ~11% Hispanic, and ~52% low income. Additionally, ~23% of the UNCG student body identify as LGBTQ+. UNCG is the most racially diverse of the UNC system’s historically white campuses and is designated as a Minority Serving Institution with a core mission value inclusiveness. UNC Greensboro places a strong emphasis on effective teaching as well as research and service to the community. The Department of Educational Research Methodology is an internationally recognized program in educational measurement and program evaluation, offering M.S., M.S./Ph.D., and Ph.D. programs that prepare graduate students to compete for top-tier positions in academia and the private sector. The Department of Educational Research Methodology offers an extensive curriculum in educational measurement, evaluation, and quantitative methodology. Hands-on, practical learning experiences of students in the Department of Educational Research Methodology are facilitated and supported by the Department’s Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Services (OAERS), which assists with securing student internship opportunities, research grants, and contracts pertaining to evaluation, measurement, and research methodology. Over the course of the past five years, the Department has extensively expanded its program evaluation curriculum and now offers seven evaluation specific courses. Position Summary:

The Department of Educational Research Methodology (ERM) at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) announces an opening for an Assistant tenure-seeking faculty position with an emphasis on Program Evaluation. The position will commence on January 10, 2022. This position involves teaching, student advising, and mentoring responsibilities for our graduate degree programs, an expectation for producing scholarly work, participating in institutional service, and securing extramural grant or contract funding. We are specifically seeking someone committed to and experienced in developing and maintaining a top-tier program of scholarship and research in the area of Program Evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires an anticipated Ph.D. in Program Evaluation, Educational Policy Analysis, Educational Psychology, Educational Research Methodology, or a related discipline at the time the appointment begins. Evidence of substantial experience in program evaluation, as well as strong academic and research credentials directly related to qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods for carrying out educational program evaluations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have a commitment to demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate level, and demonstrated competence in research, evaluation, grant writing, and scholarship. We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates a capability to seek extramural grants and contracts or worked on funded projects; has a research agenda with clear connections to equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, or cultural responsiveness, though other foci; has a culturally responsive and social justice focus; and, shares a vision of continuing to expand the profile and capacity in the area of educational program evaluation Potential for collaboration with departmental colleagues who specialize in quantitative methodologies, assessment, or measurement is also desirable.
