Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Support Services assists in executing the daily operations and functions of the Student-Athlete Support Services Program and coordinates and provides academic support for student-athletes. This position is solely responsible for hiring athletic study hall personnel. Completes all training, addresses any concerns with supervisor that might lead to the dismissal of a person who monitors study hall. This position supervises all non-appointed employees hired as athletic study hall personnel. Student-Athlete Support Services employs as many as 10-15 athletic study hall personnel per academic year. This position represents the University of Denver and Department of Athletics by providing counsel to student-athletes regarding their major selection and degree progress. This employee is responsible for using discretion in assisting student-athletes as they make academic judgments related to their degrees. Through regular meetings with the advising center this position makes recommendations regarding academic policies and procedures. The position is responsible for developing rules that student athletes adhere to in the Miller Academic Success Center. The employee must be aware of all University, NCAA and Conference academic policies and ensure they are followed.

Essential Functions

  • Providing academic counseling (including advising and registration) to undergraduate student-athletes regarding general academic issues, degree planning, and the University Requirements in the following sport programs: Men's and Women's Golf; Men's and Women's Soccer; Men's and Women's Swimming; and Men's and Women's Tennis.
  • Assisting in NCAA eligibility certification of student-athletes for continuing progress toward graduation while maintaining accurate and complete academic records.
  • Participating in recruiting activities, as requested by sports programs.
  • Assist with the graduation and retention of student-athletes.
  • Assisting with academic initiatives within the Student-Athlete Support Services Program including at-risk advising and monitoring academic progress through academic contracts, midterm progress reports, and quarterly grade reports.
  • Coordinating the operations of the Miller Academic Success Center (study table) including: Scheduling study table monitors, tracking study table attendance, hiring and training study table monitors.
  • Coordination of book purchases and returns for all students on a book scholarship.
  • Acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athletes academic matters and providing appropriate referrals.
  • Developing Life Skills Programming for continuing student-athletes.
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Division.
  • Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and the Department of Athletics Code of Ethics and rules and regulations, ensure academic integrity for all varsity sports.
  • Assuming additional responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Support Services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-3 years advising college students in an intercollegiate environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I eligibility rules.
  • Knowledge of Federal rules as they apply to working with a student populations such as FERPA and HIPPA.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
