Job Description Summary

Supports the director in departmental planning and monitoring progress. Enhances productivity and ensures compliance with rules and regulations. Assists in overseeing the entire guest experience with regard to Food and Beverage related activities. Responsible for overall quality, cleanliness, and appealing presentation of all food and beverage-related products and amenities. Brings innovation and creative direction to improving the guest and staff experiences. Provides leadership and oversight of the Manager of Food and Beverage.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees all aspects of front-of-the-house operations of Food and Beverage, Room Service, Conference Services.

  • Drives the service culture that delivers continuous improvement methods and results.

  • Assists in overseeing financial matters for departments.

  • Reviews weekly schedules for departments, ensuring hours are within budget.

  • Provides technical oversight of key functions of Micros.

  • Ensures consistency of services by inspecting areas of responsibility to ensure stewardship, and guest expectations are in line with the vision.

  • Monitors cleanliness, upkeep, and ambiance of the function areas and the equipment used by the service staff. Oversees staffing levels in all related services areas.

  • In the absence of the F&B Director leads weekly Coordination meetings and disseminates the information to the staff.

  • Communicates daily with the Director regarding any service-related issues.

  • Enforces rules of conduct and discipline in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth in the Employee Handbook.

  • Ensures that subordinates have proper equipment and supplies with which to do their job.

  • Assists in the management of personnel procedures, including the following: interviewing, hiring, training, disciplining, terminating, handling transfers, employee performance reviews, promotions, increases, and demotions within the Food and Beverage Department.

  • Handles sensitive, confidential information without compromising the integrity of the information and/or the Conference Center, or individuals that are mentioned in the information.

  • Delegates authority to accomplish the necessary requirements for specific tasks needed for the Conference Center and clients.

  • Provides formal written evaluations to department managers and employees.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus five years of managerial experience in an upscale hospitality facility or restaurant environment, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience in 4 or 5-star Lodging or Dining venues or like service culture environments.

  • Ability to provide effective leadership to department managers.

  • Ability to delegate tasks to proper departments.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service skills.

  • Ability to make independent judgment decisions.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts among guests and/or employees.

  • Knowledge of items such as alcohol, cigars, coffee products, etc.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of wine.

  • Knowledge of basic Accounting procedures, such as budgeting and purchasing tasks.

  • Must be highly organized; must be able to plan ahead so as to maximize efficiency based on available resources.

  • Knowledge of accommodations, dining/ meeting facilities and support services.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.

  • Ability to schedule employees in relation to scheduled events, meeting budget guidelines.

  • Ability to train staff members on a variety of subject matter.

  • Ability to work any shift.

  • Valid driver license with a good driving record; must be insurable.

  • Ability to perform medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual acuity to perform an activity where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach. Subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur both inside and outside.

Accountabilities:

  • Position requires the management of others through subordinates who are also supervisors, including organizing and controlling Food and Beverage areas, establishing budget plans, forecasting staffing requirements, and formulating policies and procedures. Supervises and delegates responsibilities for the following direct reports: F&B Managers, Beverage Supervisor

  • Accountable for fiscal responsibility for food and beverage departments.
