This position exists to protect the lives, health, safety and property of the public by expeditiously receiving, analyzing, interpreting evaluating and prioritizing emergent and non-emergent information via the telephone, radio, computer, alarms, printers, and in person contacts.   These calls for service are dispatched to officers and other emergency personnel that may be needed and notifications made to campus communities.  The position also processes and maintains police records.  May be required to operate department owned vehicles.

This position operates and monitors dispatch equipment to include, but not limited to:

Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Software (RMS)National and Colorado Crime Information Center (NCIC/CCIC) computer softwareComputerized network video recordings and live camerasBadge-access, door, and alarm computersFire alarm monitoring computerE-911 ComputerUniversity Police Radio/Aurora Police Radio/Hospital RadiosMass communication notification systemsNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather RadioDictaphone call-check devices and digital recording softwareGeneral office equipment to include, facsimile, copy and telephonesText Telephone (TTY) for the hearing impairedPlease Note: This is an essential services position. The incumbent is required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shift during emergency campus closures.

Job Summary:Employee will be performing duties in a learning and training role.  Tasks are performed under direct supervision and detailed instruction and guidance is received. Dispatches officers, security officers and other personnel to assist community members by gathering information via phone, radio, computers, alarms, and monitors.Monitors alarmed areas, fire systems, cameras, other local police agencies and area weather conditions by viewing and listening to computers, video monitors, printers and radios.Processes, enters, maintains and distributes police records.Train on dispatch duties and processes by practicing, drilling, reading material and attending classes.Position operates various equipment on a daily basis and reports malfunctions to appropriate supervisor or personnel.This description is a summary only and is describing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to be all-inclusive. Conditions of Employment:

The University of Colorado Denver requires security coverage 24/7. There are several requirements that are applicable to this position:

Employees in this position may be required to work either a straight or rotating shift.Employees in this position may be required to "stay over late" or "come in early" to "cover" shifts as needed.Must be willing and able to provide off-hour phone contact information to be accessible during non-work hours in case of emergencies or to cover unscheduled staffing shortages.Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record.Acceptable background information including criminal history. Due to the inherent duties of this position, applicants selected to continue will undergo a thorough background investigation.In special circumstances, this position may be assigned to support the Police Division in a security role. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Police Dispatcher I

One year of experience in an appropriate field, such as a receptionist, office administrator and/or customer service representative.  Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Substitution:Course work leading to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or coursework in business, communications, computer science, law enforcement/police studies or closely related field or may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

POLICE DISPATCHER I: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $34,200-$48,264 (non-negotiable).

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

POLICE DISPATCHER II: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $36,756 - $51,888 (non-negotiable).

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

*This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
