Job Description

The Social Media Coordinator, Sr will play an active role through the following activities to further the university’s mission and actively tell the Lumberjack story online. Reporting to the Assistant Director of NAU Social Media, this position will create and execute social media campaigns, discover and create relevant content, and contribute to social media management and reporting. This position will also help implement university communication initiatives as determined by the NAU Communications team. The coordinator will work closely with individuals within the department and across the university to provide a consistent, professional and effective voice for Northern Arizona University and its programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a creative and analytical mind on the social media team
  • Coordinate and assist with developing creative concepts and strategies to encourage user engagement and drive brand objectives
  • Create and curate content specifically optimized for social media across multiple platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Instagram Stories, IGTV, Reels, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, podcasts and blogs. Content will include, but not be limited to email campaigns, blogs, video scripts, tweets, gifs, infographics, images, podcasts and short videos
  • Curate social media calendar
  • Monitor all sanctioned university social media outlets ensuring the university’s message, visual presentation and graphic standards are upheld
  • When directed, respond professionally and appropriately to comments and questions posted on social channels
  • Contribute ideas and develop sources for written and multimedia pieces
  • Revise repurposed content to make it timely, effective and appropriate for its intended purpose
  • Assist with university’s planning efforts in the area of social and digital strategy
  • Support ongoing monthly analytics reporting and insights into social media campaigns
  • Develop and maintain internal relationships to promote teamwork and advance the priorities of NAU
  • Advise, consult, educate and support other department staff with their communications efforts
  • Coordinate social and digital training for the university community, as needed
  • Serve on committees as required and delegated
  • Stay abreast of digital best practices and trends, especially in the area of social media, to identify new opportunities to connect with NAU’s audiences

Minimum Qualifications
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of professional community management experience.
  • Experience in digital marketing, brand marketing, video production, PR, and/or customer service.
  • Demonstrated project management skills: the ability to establish priorities and objectives; to gather, classify, categorize and readily retrieve information to meet deadlines; and to clearly communicate with project stakeholders and participants
  • Ability to translate academic content for non-academic audiences
  • Collaborative, creative work style and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Strong leadership skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, creating and editing written and/or video pieces for web, social media and email communication to various audiences
  • Ability to analyze trends and use statistical information to inform strategic decision making
  • ¿Experience working with remote employees

  • Passionate and active social media participant, both personally and professionally, across all major social channels
  • Superior social media knowledge, including posting strategies, trending hashtags, platform capabilities, and social landscape
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating and maintaining effective working relationships across diverse teams
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily
  • Skill in preparing reports and summaries
  • Excellent time-management and self-directed work style, including the ability to meet tight, fixed deadlines, and ability to work without direct supervision
  • Exceptional writing skills, and the ability to switch easily between topics, audiences, objectives and communication channels
  • Knowledge of community management best practices including the crafting of response to social media commentary.
  • Project management skills, including ability to establish priorities and objectives and communicate clearly with project stakeholders and participants
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and desire to support the success of NAU students
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word products and Adobe design platforms
  • Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment
  • Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude, and willingness to participate in evening and weekend event social media activity as needed
  • Approaches change and new situations as positive opportunities for learning or growth

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus and NAU-Fort Defiance as these campuses have on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

Commensurate with experience.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU.

Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
