Custodian- Student Health Center 

The U.T. Student Health Center is seeking a full-time second shift custodian to perform routine cleaning and housekeeping tasks to ensure the upkeep of the Student Health Center. The chosen candidate shall work as a team member with other custodians and reports to a Custodian Supervisor. Duties will be carried out in accordance with established standards and ethics of medical confidentiality, workplace safety and as stated in the Student Health Center’s policies. The expected hours of employment are 4:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., Monday – Friday. There may be occasional weekend work.

Duties/Responsibilities:

    Cleans and services assigned areas; maintains sufficient stock and supplies for the proper performance of these duties.Washes windows, walls, and other assigned areas.Picks up trash, empties garbage containers and removes trash to disposal area; sanitizes trash containers as necessary to meet Health Department requirements.Retrieves and packages infectious waste for disposition.Packs, unpacks, and assists in receiving, storing, issuing, and transporting materials; assists in the counting of supplies and reports needed items for re-order.Participates in setting up, arranging, and taking down seating and decorations for specials events at the Student Health Center.Reports maintenance problems to include mechanical, structural, or electrical conditions in need of repair to supervisor.Assists with the evacuation of patients and staff in the event of an emergency.Performs quality control tests and maintains quality control log for steam autoclave; Cleans autoclave as per instructions.Cleans contaminated areas and body fluid spills as needed. Properly disposes of sharps containers and ensures new containers are distributed.Discusses general housekeeping procedures with supervisor, recommends changes in procedure, and implements changes in procedures as directed.Meets performance standards identified in the Infection Control, Security & Emergency Management, Life Safety, Hazardous Waste, and the Medical Utilities Management Plan.Completes annual training in OSHA standards, HIPAA policies, and all UTK annual reviews.


Qualifications
Qualifications:

    Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED; Must be able to read, count, write, utilize a computer for training purposes and follow instructions. Must maintain confidentiality1 year of custodial experience Preference given for previous medical facility cleaning experience.Must have ability to lift 50 pounds.Must have the ability to operate electrical rotary floor cleaners and buffers.
