The University of Virginia is seeking a Senior Electrician for Facilities Management. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVa’s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University-owned and leased properties.

FM is seeking a Senior Electrician for Central Grounds. Responsibilities include:

  • Assume responsibility for laying out and running larger and more complex jobs involving more than one mechanic.
  • Assist supervisor in coordinating daily assignments among different jobs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance repairs and emergency maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Respond to emergency requests.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.
  • Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements
  • Direct and provide guidance and mentorship to lower level electricians and apprentices.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

The Senior Electrician will have the ability to troubleshoot issues, and experience engaging with manaufacturers’ technical departments and conducting product research. Experience with complex lighting controls, including Lutron Controls and nLight is highly preferred. The Senior Electrician is willing to train apprentices.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: A minimum of seven years of electrical experience, including knowledge of emergency backup systems and switchgear operations.

Licensure: Journeyman or higher electrical license. A Master's license is preferred.

Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks, including a health screen, prior to the first day of employment.

Position Compensation Range: $24.05 - $27.88 Hourly

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).
