Summary of Position: Will serve as the primary sports contact for 13-18 Wildcat Athletic Teams. Oversee and develop one graduate assistant. Recruit, oversee, and develop 10-20 student workers, and 2-3 student assistants who help with social media, the scorer’s table, stats, announcing, broadcasting, photography, graphic design, athletic department history maintenance and videography. Manage and direct all game operations related to media requests, press box and scorer’s table. Coordinate all media responsibilities for the IWU Athletics, athletic-related and special events – press releases, press conferences, social media, statistics, game notes, and game programs.Duties and Responsibilities Will serve as the primary sports contact for 13-18 Wildcat Athletic TeamsOversee and develop one graduate assistantRecruit, oversee, and develop 10-20 student workers, and 2-3 student assistants who help with social media, the scorer’s table, stats, announcing, broadcasting, photography, graphic design, athletic department history maintenance and videographyManage and direct all game operations related to media requests, press box and scorer’s table.Coordinate all media responsibilities for the IWU Athletics, athletic-related and special events – press releases, press conferences, social media, statistics, game notes, and game programs.Pitch and solicit stories to, respond to requests from, and maintain a positive relationship with local, regional, and national print, radio, TV and internet media representatives.Coordinate arrangements for media visitation and interviews with student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Issues press and photo credentials.Conduct interviews as needed, including the creation of videos for distribution on social media. Provide media training for coaches and student-athletes.Manage post-game interviews and press conferences.Maintain and develop IWU Athletics history and archivesDevelop and manage the athletics website and establish an approach to maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and timely content and news dissemination (including all aspects of the website such as rosters, schedules, biographies, results, etc.).Create and post splash pages as appropriate.Handle record book management and continually work to catalog all aspects of Athletics Communications, utilizing digital archiving procedures that include website and cloud technology.Manage storage/library of annual files, photographs, miscellaneous awards, and videography.Manage nominations for conference, regional, and national awards such as Player of the Week, all-conference teams, etc. Actively search for and write nominations and releases on honorees, significant milestones, and awards for current and former student-athletes.Oversee the coordination and implementation of the department’s social media outreach plan. Manage and post the athletic event components such as pregame, in-game, and post-game.Create monthly student/coaches features to highlight the mission of IWU AthleticsAssist Associate Athletic Director of External Relations with Special Events or other Department needsAttend and cover teams who qualify for NAIA National Championships Final Site competition.Manage the Live Stream set-up of most home events while using a student team to broadcast the eventsRecruit video interns or student workers to create weekly video contentRecruit, and develop a student social media workers/interns to provide in-game social for fans, daily gameday social for promotion of home events, and other social media marketing efforts that effectively promote IWU AthleticsWork collaboratively with the University’s Public Affairs Office on all athletic-related news stories and events.Other Duties as Assigned - (Essential)Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.Education• Master’s degreeExperience• 4-6 years of previous intercollegiate athletic experience in the field of media relations/sports information.• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Premier• Ability to shoot sports photography and capture sports video for marketing and video purposed• Experience with website maintenance (SIDEARM) and back-end updating.• Knowledge and experience with online streaming and video systems• Ability to create content designed to build brand and drive online engagement OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.Required Skills• Bachelor’s Degree• Minimum of 2 years (2 Years GA = 1 Year Experience) previous intercollegiate athletic experience in the field of media relations/sports information.• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and PremierLIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMERAs a religious educational institution operating under the auspices of The Wesleyan Church, Indiana Wesleyan University is permitted and reserves the right to prefer employees on the basis of religion (42 U.S.C., Sections 2000e-1 and 2000e-2).The above job description is meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required for the position.
