JOB SUMMARY:

The Bioinformatician/Programmer will support the Research and Pilot Project Leaders, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the COBRE in Human Genetics as a member of the Research Core at the Center for Human Genetics (CHG). The duties will include analyses of next generation sequencing data, maintenance of the CHG HPC, and other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

40% - Essential - Bioinformatic and statistical analyses of next generation genomic sequencing data from Illumina, PacBio, Oxford nanopore and Chromium 10X platforms in support of the Research Core of the COBRE in Human Genetics.

30% - Essential - Provide advice on experimental design and analysis to COBRE in Human Genetics and Center for Human Genetics faculty and laboratory groups, including but not limited to calculation of needed genomic coverage, sample sizes for sequencing, and programming.

30% - Essential - Computationally optimize bioinformatic workflows, convert CPU-based workflows to GPU architecture, develop long-term, scalable data storage solutions. Maintain and manage the Center for Human Genetics in-house HPC cluster; install and update software and packages on an HPC.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field;

Work Exp - 2+ years in bioinformatics, statistics, HPC programming.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Doctoral / Professional Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field;

Experience in genomic sequencing data analyses, statistics and programming in HPC environment.
