Position OverviewATLAS promotes learning and improved outcomes for all students. We create technology-based learning and assessment systems that are accessible and academically rigorous. Our center serves all students, including students with disabilities and struggling learners, as well as their educators.

We specialize in map-based learning systems that are informed by research on skill development, assessment design, and teacher professional development. Our grant-funded research includes writing instruction, science professional development, support for teacher trainers, and science assessment design. We also foster partnerships with diverse organizations that share our focus and commitment to quality learning experiences for all students.
Our center develops and delivers state assessments. The Dynamic Learning Maps® (DLM®) Alternate Assessment System assesses students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in English language arts, mathematics, and science. We also offer custom social studies alternate assessments. Our broader state assessments include the Kansas Assessment Program, the Career Pathways Assessment System, and the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessment.

We are seeking an Assistant Researcher Senior to support research design and data analysis for operational research and evaluation projects. ATLAS projects focus on improving pK-12 academic outcomes for all students by developing rigorous technology-based learning and assessment systems. Responsibilities will include designing research studies, developing sampling specifications, managing and manipulating data sets, evaluating whether data meet assumptions of statistical tests, running descriptive and inferential statistics, performing quality assurance checks on analyses and reports, and communicating findings to various audiences. We are particularly seeking expertise in one or more of the following: cluster analysis, hierarchical linear modeling, methods for interrater reliability, machine learning, sampling methods, sample matching methods, power analysis, and data reduction techniques.

Critical to the role is the ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively with colleagues, meet established timelines, ensure quality of deliverables and be responsive to project needs.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), unclassified position at the Lawrence campus, with occasional off-site meetings. Remote work arrangements with regular travel to the Lawrence campus will be considered for well-qualified candidates. Job Description
  • 60% -Design and carry out research studies to support operational research and evaluation projects. Develop sampling specifications, manage and manipulate data sets, evaluate whether data meet assumptions, conduct descriptive and inferential analyses, and perform quality assurance checks on analyses and reports.
  • 20% - Prepare study results for dissemination to technical and non-technical audiences. This includes topic guides, research reports, briefs, and other products for a variety of audiences, along with presentations to external groups.
  • 10%- Collaborate with colleagues to develop proposals for externally funded initiatives (focusing on research design and analyses).
  • 10% - Collaborate with other teams to apply professional expertise to ATLAS projects, and other duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Due to COVID restrictions, this position will begin teleworking and may transition to on-site work when deemed safe and necessary.

Required Qualifications
    Master's degree in educational psychology, educational measurement, psychometrics, statistics, or other closely related field; or a bachelor's degree and 3 years of full-time related experience in a research-related role.At least 2 years of experience with quantitative analysis and coding in at least one statistical application (e.g., R, SAS, or SPSS).Experience with data management such as data manipulation, quality control and data cleaning.Experience disseminating and communicating research findings, as evidenced in application.Strong problem-solving skills as evidenced by application materials and interview.Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines, including adapting in response to changes in work priorities and processes, as evidenced in application.Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
    Doctoral degree in educational psychology, educational measurement, psychometrics, statistics or other closely related field.Expertise in one or more of the following: cluster analysis, hierarchical (multi-level) linear modeling, methods for interrater reliability, machine learning, sampling methods, sample matching methods, power analysis, and data reduction techniques.Effective oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, as evidenced in written application materials and interview.Familiarity with or experience using qualitative or mixed methods.
