Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Director, Leadership Annual Giving.

The Cal Athletics Fund is the fundraising and alumni relations arm of UC Berkeley's Intercollegiate Athletics Department, Cal Athletics. This position is responsible for helping to meet the fundraising objectives of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and ensuring that predetermined fundraising goals with regard to annual gifts are met.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director this position is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual gift-level prospective donors as well as the implementation of moderate-sized comprehensive fundraising and alumni relations programs.


Responsibilities
  • Identify and manage a portfolio of at least 125 annual fund prospects which includes individuals with specific affiliation and/or giving interest to Cal Athletics.
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward annual gift prospects and donors.
  • Complete 13 substantive contacts per month with an emphasis on quality personal visits.
  • Identify and evaluate potential donors; design and implement prospect cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Ensure predetermined fundraising goals are met, by providing strategy, analyzing progress throughout the year, and working with stakeholders to increase outreach. Meet or exceed assigned fundraising goals.
  • Act as a liaison to specific sports to provide alumni relations and fundraising services to designated friends groups and constituents.
  • Design, organize, and implement targeted and cost effective special alumni events and board meetings to advance alumni relations and fundraising engagement opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the University of California, Berkeley and Intercollegiate Athletics, its traditions, programs, campus issues, needs, and priorities to the development process.
  • Persuasively discuss athletic programs, needs and priorities with prospective donors and volunteers.
  • Facilitate communication between administrators, coaches, donors, prospects and volunteers, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
    Previous frontline fundraising and/or sales experience.
  • Skill to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment and collaborate on projects and assignments.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and quickly discern complex and competing interests.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and with external constituencies. Excellent organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to work across multiple databases and CRM systems.
  • Ability to travel and attend weekend and evening events.
  • Skill to maintain confidentiality.

Education/Training:
    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training/experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of the unique nature of athletics fundraising.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn and understand the institution, its mission, vision, goals, achievements, policies, and infrastructure preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable NCAA and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
