The Assistant Director of Bonner Program and Community Partnerships will coordinate the Stetson University Bonner Program and manage the Center for Community Engagement’s community partnerships. The Bonner Program is part of a national network of Bonner programs that combine students’ academic and career goals with meaningful needs in local communities through research, internships, and capstone projects. The Assistant Director directly supervises a Graduate Assistant and several student employees, indirectly supervises approximately 70 additional student employees, manages operational and employment budgets totaling more than $400,000/year, and is the primary manager of more than 20 nonprofit and government community partners.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

In particular, the Assistant Director will:

  • Manage the department’s community partnerships with nonprofit and government organizations, including site visits, risk management, contracting, opportunity mapping and development, and partner capacity-building, with a focus on partnerships that advance racial equity in the greater DeLand community.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Bonner Foundation, including preparing annual reports to the Bonner Foundation, attending the Bonner Foundation's annual directors/coordinators meetings, and participating in other Bonner Foundation special initiatives.
  • Build trust, positive relationships, and community within the Bonner Program through intentional student outreach, attendance at meetings, and proactive discussion of student and stakeholder ideas and concerns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partner organizations while matching Bonner students with capacity-building internship opportunities in the community.
  • Provide success coaching to Bonner students, including support and resources to develop effective self-determination and self-advocacy to reach students’ academic and personal goals while maximizing retention and persistence.
  • Maintain a four-year, developmental, comprehensive Bonner training and enrichment curriculum based on national best-practices, as well as challenge students to integrate their community engagement with their academic and career interests.
  • Plan, execute, attend, and evaluate the success of Bonner student cornerstone activities, including the First-Year Trip, Sophomore Exchange, Junior Capstone projects/presentations, and Senior Presentations of Learning.
  • Manage the Bonner Program’s budget and fiscal operations, including its operational budget, summer internship budgets, community impact fund, and student employment budget.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for Bonner-related training and enrichment activities to be open to all Stetson students across the campus community in order to advance social justice education.
  • Oversee departmental marketing, including creating and posting opportunities for internships and research for the entire University student population, managing our GivePulse/Engage and social media accounts, and creation of content to highlight community engagement opportunities and accomplishments.
  • Manage the Summer Nonprofit Internship Fund, including management of all grants that fund the program.
  • Support campus efforts around community-based research and community-engaged learning by connecting community-engaged students and faculty to these high-impact opportunities.
  • Help advance the Center for Community Engagement racial equity goals, especially to the extent that those goals intersect with partners’ goals and initiatives.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Graduate Assistant: Community Partnerships and Operations Manager.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise (directly or indirectly) all Center for Community Engagement student employees.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Bonner Program student leadership team, particularly the Student Program Coordinators who are direct reports to the Assistant Director.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as a member of the division of Campus Life and Student Success.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree and have a minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, social justice, or volunteer/internship management programs; a Master’s degree is preferred, but not required
  • Experience in working with community partners and social justice programs, a thorough understanding of a broad range of campus populations, and a track record of high productivity and job performance are essential
  • Familiarity with national community engagement programs and knowledge of national community engagement trends and best-practices is helpful
