The Department of Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track, faculty position at the assistant level in our Teacher Education Program. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face and online undergraduate classes in the Educator Preparation Program, with a focus on the Science of Teaching Reading. In addition to teaching, the candidate will maintain an active research and publication agenda; assist in the coordination of the Teacher Education program vision; and fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university and profession. The candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the College of Education and Human Development as well as with our school and community partners.Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
The successful candidate must provide leadership, coordination, collaboration, and innovation in redesigning the current reading curriculum and instruction coursework to include aligning the new science of teaching reading standards mandated by House Bill 3, passed during the 86th Texas Legislature session. After January 1, 2021, all teacher candidates who teach students in grades early childhood through eighth grade must demonstrate proficiency in the science of teaching reading on a standalone certification exam. Expertise in literacy assessment, teaching English (language) learners, diverse populations, and familiarity with children’s literature is essential.
Minimum Qualifications:-An earned doctorate in Education (e.g., C&I, Reading Specialist – Reading/Literacy (ELAR))-Commitment to the professional field of Teacher Education-Experience teaching reading courses-Commitment to diversity-Knowledge of the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) curriculum in Texas-Expertise in literacy assessmentPreferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):
