Location:

Description:

The Counseling Center staff is searching for a new colleague to be part of our Center. Our center provides a comprehensive array of services in a small, private liberal arts college context. We are a high utilization, high touch environment with a clinical model that prioritizes treatment and administrative model that allows access. We are looking for a strong generalist who values being a psychotherapist and wants to work as part of a team that values a good sense of humor. We take a collaborative team-based approach where flexible and focused supervision is a priority and taking one’s self lightly and having fun is important. We are also looking for a colleague who is interested in integrating into the campus community and participating in a collaborative approach to wellness. Our office values approaching ourselves and our students in ways that reflect the complexity of being human. We also value providing excellent care to traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented students; experience with African American and/or Latinx students is desired. Experience providing group therapy and/or coordinating groups or peer counseling programs is also desired.

Primary Responsibilities:
Providing individual psychotherapy, keeping timely records of clinical and other activities, participating in a backup (to ProtoCall) rotation, and participating in outreach activities in areas such as RA training and orientation programming. We also encourage all of our staff to identify and explore specific areas of interest that coincide with their personal and professional development, and we support those areas of interest. Opportunities to coordinate groups and/or a peer counseling program are possibilities. Supervision and hours to meet NY State Licensure requirements will be provided. This is a full-time 10 month position.

Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or Clinical Social Worker, and at least one year of experience in a college or university counseling center (can include internship year; pre-licensure applicants accepted).

Desired Qualifications

Experience with or interest in group therapy and/or groups coordination; peer counseling programs; experience working with African American and/or Latinx students; passion for and interest in outreach programming; experience with eating disorders, sexual assault, or AOD concerns; and/or a history of working in higher education settings are all a plus. The ability to provide connected, compassionate, and sensitive therapy while responding efficiently and effectively to emergent needs is strongly desired. A sense of humor is a definite plus. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, as are licensed applicants.

Application Instructions:

Please submit cover letter, resume and contact information for three professional references.  Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Organization

Working at Hamilton College

Hamilton College is one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges. It is independent, highly selective, coeducational and residential. Originally founded in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy and chartered in 1812 as the third oldest college in New York State, Hamilton is today composed of 1,850 students from nearly all 50 states and 50 countries. It is distinguished by a faculty of 190 men and women dedicated to teaching and scholarship, by rigorous academic programs, by an emphasis on teaching students to write well and speak persuasively, and by a commitment to diversity in its broadest sense. The College, with an endowment nearing $1 billion (October 2017), is need-blind in admission and has invested more than $265 million in new and renovated facilities in the past dozen years.

Hamilton is located on a wooded 1,350-acre hilltop campus overlooking the New England-style Village of Clinton, New York, in close proximity to the Adirondack Park, where hiking, skiing, fishing, boating and snowmobiling abound. The campus is within a 4-5 hour drive of New York, Boston, Toronto and Philadelphia, and there is a rich variety of cultural opportunities on campus and in nearby Utica (10 minutes), Syracuse (45 minutes) and Cooperstown (55 minutes).

As a national leader for teaching students to write effectively, learn from each other and think for themselves, Hamilton produces graduates who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to make their voices heard on issues of importance to their communities and the world.
