Overview and Responsibilities

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered for adjunct instructor, substitute instructor, and/or instructional assistant needs in the Cosmetology and Nail Technician programs.

 

Upon successful submission of your application, cover letter, resume, and transcripts, you will be considered for future adjunct and/or substitute teaching opportunities. Adjunct instructors and instructional assistants are hired on a per course and/or as needed basis. Courses are taught face-to-face in classroom and in a lab setting in CVTC's Shear Inspiration Salon & Spa.

 

Adjunct Instructor Responsibilities:

CVTC adjunct instructors are dynamic partners for both students and the College. An adjunct instructor works with students beyond the classroom to ensure their success, models CVTC core abilities, and demonstrates commitment to excellence in program/course content and delivery. An adjunct instructor is able to work effectively in a collaborative environment; is willing to innovate and change to meet evolving program and industry needs; and demonstrates competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching. Generally, an adjunct instructor will be hired to instruct specific open classes based upon the adjunct instructor’s qualifications and availability.

 

  • Plan for and instruct courses in the area of Cosmetology and Nail Technician.
  • Implement relevant and progressive curriculum.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction through the planning and implementation of effective learning strategies and environments.
  • Create performance-based assessments aligned with competencies through formative and summative measures.
  • Promote student success through timely communication, growth-based feedback, and implementation of strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Meet professional expectations by maintaining professional currency and contributing to a collaborative culture across the College.
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.

Instructional Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in a lab and/or group setting with related course work.
  • Assist with use of appropriate computer software and other technology for students.
  • Assist with work projects for instructors.
  • Review daily work for individual assessment of students as requested by instructors.
  • Proctor tests for individual assessment of students as requested by instructors.
  • Record/monitor student attendance.
  • Maintain accurate student records; prepare reports as required.
  • Maintain books, supplies, software, multimedia/lab equipment, and record cards.
  • May direct activities of work-study students.
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin State cosmetology laws and practices with high emphasis on sanitation and safety.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to assist a variety of students at various levels with study skills, educational activities, and materials.
  • Ability to assist students with all phases of coloring techniques using current color.
  • Ability to assist students with perm techniques and chemical relaxing.
  • Ability to assist students with basic and advanced cuts for males and females, children through adults, using all cutting tools (shears, razors, clippers, and T-edger’s).
  • Ability to assist students on trimming facial hair.
  • Ability to assist students with facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, roller setting, back-combing, and long and short hair styling using appropriate tools.
  • Ability to assist entry-level students with basic skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.

  • Basic knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Qualifications

Adjunct Instructor Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a professional cosmetology program at an accredited institution.
  • Cosmetology Instructor Certificate issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
  • Verification of recent continuing education, credit or non-credit.
  • Minimum of 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to date of hire. One year (2,000 hours) of recent related occupational experience may be waived if the instructor has at least 2 years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to date of hire.
  • Five years of occupational experience preferred.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Qualified per CVTC requirements at time of, and throughout, employment as an instructor. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance System (FQAS) standards, and/or other job specific licensing standards.

Instructional Assistant Qualifications:

  • Cosmetology Instructor Certificate issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a salon, including nail experience.

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and serves an eleven-county area in west central Wisconsin. Student Profile

Student enrollment exceeds 8,000 credit students per year, plus over 9,000 non-credit students, with full-time equivalents of over 4,000. The median age of credit students is 24. Approximately 68% of students receive financial aid and 44% are Pell Grant students.

Programs and Placement

CVTC offers 110 programs, 35 certificates, and customized training to an average of 140 businesses annually. CVTC has an outstanding placement rate, 95% of graduates are employed within six months of graduation, with 87% in a related field. CVTC has nationally recognized faculty and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Business and industry leaders serve on advisory committees and help CVTC match its curriculum to the needs of today's workplace. Courses are offered at numerous locations in traditional classroom settings, as well as online and in a variety of blended and hybrid formats.
