The Math Emporium Instructional Assistant II provides instructional support services for students, Faculty, and Math Emporium Coordinator in the LSSC Math Emporiums.

This part-time position reports to the Math Emporium Coordinator.Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1.Assist students in improving academic achievement through providing one-on-one math tutoring for students in the Math Emporium;
2.Assist students with MyMathLab software, including, but not limited to registration, password problems, navigation, submission of work, and the location of their personal grade book;
3. Assist students with resolving computer problems, including contacting the Math Emporium Coordinator and/or IT Math Emporium Computer Technicians.
4. Encourage students to develop confidence and to become more independent learners. 5. Maintain an attitude and environment conducive to learning;
6. Work cooperatively with the Math Emporium Coordinator, Math Emporium Peer Assistants, Faculty, staff, and students;
7. Follow proper end-of-day procedures, including assuring that computers and monitors are powered down at the end of the day;
8. Maintain competence in assigned and related areas;
9.Follow all Math Emporium rules and guidelines;
10.Maintain and submit accurate time sheets;
11. Attend in-service training workshops;
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
13. Provide general assistance to students in the Math Emporium;
14. Acts as lead assistant when the Math Emporium Coordinator is not present.
15.Special projects assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Associates Degree including Calculus I, Calc II and III preferred; Bachelor’s Degree Preferred with a major in Mathematics, Statistics, or other related field.

4-5 years experience teaching or tutoring Math required, or 2-3 years with a Bachelors degree described above.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

1. Current knowledge of Math Emporium course curriculum;
2. Genuine interest in helping students achieve math success;
3. Excellent customer service through the ability to assist students, the Math Emporium Coordinator, Peer Assistants, Faculty, and staff;
4. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with students;
5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal skills; Exhibits computer proficiency;
6. Ability to act as a champion for student math success and Math Emporium success.
7. Effective time management skills.
8. Ability to handle responsibility and show leadership.
