Description:

A fully funded Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in cell biology and systems biology research in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Lau in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (https://www.laulab.net). Our research uses genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics approaches to understand basic cellular processes in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who is experienced in quantitative life science research in cardiovascular diseases and related field. The ideal candidate should show a sustained interest in research related to cardiomyocyte differentiation and maturation, cell-cell interaction and communications, and cellular stress and senescence models using human induced pluripotent stem cell models, and will develop and apply large-scale sequencing, proteomics, and bioinformatics methods to analyze cellular models.

In addition, we are seeking applicants who are passionate about performing original research in an academic settings, show excellent organizational skills, able to work both independently and in a team setting, dedicated to maintaining a healthy and respectful workplace, and wish to contribute to a vibrant and energetic research environment in a leading scientific institution in the Rocky Mountain region.

Responsibilities:

    Design and execute research projects using human induced pluripotent stem cell systems to model cardiac differentiation and diseases.Design and execute large-scale sequencing and proteomics experiments to profile cellular model and to generate testable hypotheses.Develop new cell culture and co-culture models to examine and manipulate cellular communication between human cell types.Interpret data and communicate experimental results and findings in both spoken and written formats to colleagues in the department and beyond.Work independently or as part of a team on cell biology and tissue culture experiments, which may include cellular differentiation, characterization, and daily maintenance of pluripotent stem cell cultures.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at NIH $53,760 level 0 - level 4 $58,608.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. or equivalent in physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related scientific fields from an accredited institution.Minimum of 3 years of active research experience in the life sciences in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with cell culture models including human induced pluripotent stem cell models as applied toward basic biomedical research.Prior experience with large-scale bulk or single-cell RNA sequencing or proteomics approaches preferred.Conditions of Employment:Must be able to sustain prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in the laboratory environment.Must be able to handle, carry, and lift objects encountered in the research settings, up to 10 kg in weight.Must be willing to work in a standard research environment that may contain fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, sharp objects, hazardous materials, tissue, and body fluids.Must be willing to work with complex laboratory equipment, chemical solutions, and biological materials.

Competencies / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Oral and written communication skills; evidence for effective communication of science.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Proficiency with computational and statistical approaches to the analysis of quantitative data, familiarity with command line interfaces and statistical programming languages preferredApplicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
