The Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor of Health Sciences for academic year 2021-2022. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 60 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHS) program currently has approximately 250 students that are in one of four concentrations: Generalist, Health Informatics, Health Services Administration, and Human Performance/Fitness Management. This position will fill teaching needs within the Generalist, Health Informatics, and possibly the Health Services Administration concentrations of the BHS program.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, the Visiting Instructor of Health Sciences position requires teaching undergraduate courses such as: Health Communication, Research Methods, Introduction to Health Informatics, Management of Health Information, Analysis of Healthcare Data, Health Issues and Resources, Health Policy Issues, Principles of Knowledge Management and Decision Support, and Health and Human Development. The position may also require a small amount of service and administrative work, but the primary focus will be teaching four to five courses each semester This is a 10-month appointment (August 2021 – May 2022), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility for reappointment to a second year based on funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned master's degree in Health Informatics, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2021 with 18 graduate semester hours in Health Informatics, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field.
  • Ability to teach online courses.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching college/university courses in Health Sciences.
