Position Summary:
During their year in residence in Monterey, the fellow will be expected to: 1) Publish a significant work in the field of biological or chemical weapons proliferation/terrorism or related delivery systems and strategies for their control and or global health security related issues. 2) Participate in the general research activities of the Center. 3) Present CNS seminars in their area of specialization. This is a term-limited, full-time, position. Duration of the position is between 9 to 12 months. The individual selected for the position is expected to begin work no later than September 15 2021. Applications received by July 1 2021, will receive priority screening, but later applications will also be considered. It is anticipated that the individual selected for the position will work at the CNS Monterey office. However, location at the DC office base is not precluded.

Essential Functions:
• Conduct research projects on WMD nonproliferation and other global health security related topics; prepare a substantial manuscript for publication. • Publish articles and op-eds on nonproliferation issues and/or global health security issues. • Give lectures on nonproliferation and/or global health security topics to visiting fellows, interns, and others. • Assist with ongoing Center-wide projects on nonproliferation and/or global health security.

General Responsibilities:
• Present research results at conferences and workshops.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Education:
• Ph.D. must be in hand before arrival. However, a pre-doctoral fellowship for advanced Ph.D. students will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The search is open in regard to specific topic and region, as long as the proposed research is related to biological or chemical weapons proliferation/terrorism or global health security. •Excellent English writing and communication skills

Experience:
Expertise in both science and policy issues, including familiarity with new disruptive technologies and their security implications, is desirable but not necessary.

Physical Demands:
The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey maintains a smoke-free workplace and complies with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act. Position requires light to moderate physical effort and the ability to work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
