North Orange Continuing Education is now accepting applications for part-time noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors to teach at our main campuses, community-based locations, and online through Distance Education (DE) starting in the 2021-22 academic year. Subjects may include, but are not limited to: ESL Integrated Skills, Multilevel, Family Literacy, and specialty classes such as grammar, speaking, vocabulary or writing. Assignments may also be available in our ESL Learning Centers. Part-time, temporary, hourly assignments are on an as-needed basis.Special Requirements:
Various schedules and locations are available. Hours will vary depending on class(es) assigned.
The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration. Minimum Qualifications:
Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.
All degrees and course work used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions. See our website at http://www.nocccd.edu/minimum-qualifications regarding accredited postsecondary institutions.

Noncredit Courses. Except as provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows: Desirable Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages
Bachelor’s degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
Bachelor’s degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor
Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.
Master’s degree in TESOL.
Experience teaching ESL courses for adult education or community college.
Familiarity with CASAS testing, EL Civics, and/or Integrated Education & Training (IET), including I-BEST.
Experience with curriculum development.
Possession of strong computer skills and ability to learn and effectively use technology and software.
Demonstrated ability to integrate 21st century learning skills and digital literacy effectively into instruction.
Understanding of, and the ability to implement, effective online instructional strategies.
Experience teaching distance education courses, including demonstrated experience with online learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
NOTE: Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by Campus standards. Currently, NOCE instructors must possess one of the following to be eligible for an online teaching assignment:
- NOCE Online Teaching Certification (“OTC”)
- @ONE Online Teaching Certificate including all of the following training courses:
- Introduction to Course Design
- 10-10-10: Communication That Matters
- Assessment in Digital Learning
- Creating Accessible Course Content
- Online Teaching & Design Capstone
- Equivalency to NOCE Online Teaching Certificate (“OTC”), as approved by the NOCE Distance Education Advisory Group. Please see pages 9-10 in the NOCE Distance Education Faculty Handbook for requirements.

This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, and temporary faculty assignments on an as-needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part-time faculty.
