Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.Description:Hofstra University School of Law, located in Hempstead, NY, is seeking to hire a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor to teach and supervise its Veterans Law Clinic. Commenced in January 2017 as part of the School of Law's Health Law program, and recently named the Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic, the Clinic helps veterans with disabilities access crucial VA benefits, including monthly disability compensation, cost-free healthcare, and education benefits. The Clinic represents veterans in disability compensation appeals before the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. The Clinic also represents veterans in applications for discharge upgrades before the Discharge Review Boards and Boards for Correction of Military/Naval Records with a focus on those discharged for reasons relating to mental health conditions, military sexual trauma, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

The Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor will be responsible for all aspects of running the Clinic, including course planning and teaching, supervision and mentoring of law students in representing veterans, clinic administration, and community education and outreach. Our Clinical Faculty benefit from generous support for scholarship and pedagogical innovation, as well as being part of an active and engaged NYC-area clinical community. All Clinical Professors are warmly encouraged to participate in faculty workshops, conferences, and other aspects of academic life at the Law School, including the monthly meetings of an energetic and supportive clinical faculty.

The Hofstra Law Clinic was established in 1973 and is an integral part of the Law School. The Law School has clinical offerings in the following areas: Asylum, Deportation Defense, Community and Economic Development, Criminal Defense, Law Reform, Federal Tax, and Youth Advocacy. The Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic is an integral component of the School’s vibrant health law program and renowned Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy.
Qualifications:Clinical teaching experience is desirable, though not required.
