Chapman University’s Attallah College of Educational Studies seeks applications for part-time lecturers to teach one or two teacher education courses in its graduate programs (Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Arts in Special Education) during the 2021-2022 Academic Year (fall, interterm, spring, summer).More information about the Teacher Education programs in Attallah College of Educational Studies is available athttps://www.chapman.edu/education/index.aspx.Attallah College of Educational Studies is nationally accredited by CAEP, regionally accredited by WASC, and its teacher education programs are fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Qualifications

• Doctorate in Education, Curriculum, Learning Sciences, Special Education, Disability Studies, or a related field• Candidates with a master’s degree and specialist credential and/or extensive experience in K12 will be considered• Valid California clear teaching credential in the area of the course to be taught (multiple subject, single subject, special education (mild/moderate, moderate/severe including expertise in assistive technology), reading and literacy specialist.o Preferred qualification: dual credential multiple or single subject plus Education Specialist (special education)• Minimum 5 years K-12 teaching experience• Expertise in elementary methods, secondary core content methods (English, mathematics, history/social studies, science), K-12 reading, secondary content area reading, bilingual education (Spanish), culturally responsive instruction, and/or special education• Current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks and accountability systems• Demonstrated knowledge of current TPE and TPA requirements for teacher education candidates• Expertise and facility with technology, including remote instruction due to current COVID-19 circumstances• Experience in inclusive education and differentiated instruction• Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University Diversity and Inclusion plan• Experience teaching, mentoring, or supervising preservice teachers• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing• Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching and academic excellence• Demonstrated ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds• Current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks and accountability systems• Demonstrated knowledge of current TPE and TPA requirements for teacher education candidates• Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process• Commitment to personalized education• Commitment to supporting and enhancing programs’ core values and missions as described on the program websites:o MAT: https://www.chapman.edu/education/graduate/teacher-education/te-credentials.aspxo Special Education: https://www.chapman.edu/education/graduate/teacher-education/special-ed/index.aspxo MACI: https://www.chapman.edu/education/undergraduate/integrated-bachelors-plus-masters-in-curriculum-and-instruction.aspx

Responsibilities

Classes are generally held from 4:00-6:50 p.m. or 7:00-9:50 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and meet once per week. Some select courses are offered during daytime hours or twice per week. Different courses may have openings each semester, please review the Graduate Catalog at http://catalog.chapman.edu and specify which courses you are most interested in and qualified to teach (all courses are found in the catalog under Attallah College’s section).The lecturer will collaborate with the program coordinator to design the assigned course section from existing course syllabi and outlines, with consultation and mentorship.Responsibilities each week include preparing course lesson plans, coordinating class materials, holding office hours, and grading assignments submitted by the students. The lecturer must be available to attending instructor meetings periodically held throughout the semester as well as a half day orientation at the beginning of the semester. Finally, as a nationally-accredited program, all part time lecturers are responsible for providing data on all accreditation-related assignments, replying to all college surveys, submitting requested updated information, and maintaining open and ongoing communication with Chapman University faculty, staff and students through assigned Chapman email throughout the duration of employment at Chapman University.
