Position Summary:
The Director of Campus Life will provide oversight for the student organizations, activity programming, in partnership with the Assistant Director of Programming and Student Organizations, and will provide direct advising for Student Senate and Greek Life. Additionally, this position will also oversee parent programs, and will partner with the Office of Success and Persistence to support orientation and the transition of the first-year experience for students. These duties are the heart of student life for Coe students. This role works closely with the Dean of Student Experience to use an educational approach when supporting students in their co-
curricular interests. This is a live-on position, serving as a member of the on-call staff with other
Student Life staff.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Programs, coordinating and implementing campus-wide programming in partnership with other division-wide and departments on campus.
  • Advise Greek Life organizations and Student Senate.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Programs to support all student organizations and their faculty/staff advisors so the student groups can achieve their organizational goals while still adhering to college conduct expectations.
  • Serve on the crisis response team, including sharing on-call duty responsibilities with other Student Life team members.
  • Oversee Parent Programs, engaging Coe parents through development of communication and communication outlets, as well as programmed events such as Parents Weekend.

Staff Job Description:

  • Coordinate and implement programming for student leaders including the annual training of student org. leaders and advisors, leadership awards, etc.
  • Serve as a member of the orientation and first year experience team, partnering with the Office of Student Success and Persistence to ensure a smooth transition for first-year students and their connection to Student Life.
  • Serve as a hearing officer through the conduct system.
  • Provide support to Student Life staff members to ensure programs and events are staffed by the Student Life Office.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student personnel, counseling or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • Two to three years of progressive experience in student affairs in a higher education setting.
  • Successful completion of a background check in accordance with Coe College policy.

Organization

 

Coe College is a national, residential liberal arts college offering a broad array of programs in the arts, sciences and professions. The campus encompasses nearly 70 acres in the heart of Iowa’s second largest city, Cedar Rapids, and is adjacent to the MedQuarter Regional Medical District. 

A member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), Coe enrolls 1,400 students and has approximately 415 full- and part-time employees. This includes nearly 90 full-time faculty members and 180 full-time staff members. The nine largest incoming classes in the college’s history have all come in the last nine years, with the most recent class totalling 436 students from 27 states and six countries.

The college offers over 60 areas of study with a 4-4-1 academic calendar including an optional May Term. Nearly all students live on campus all four years, and 90% of students are involved in one or more co-curricular activities. 

Producing 32 Fulbright Scholars in the last eight years, Coe has been named a top producer of U.S. Fulbright students when compared nationally with all colleges and universities. The college provides a highly personalized approach to education with an average class size of 16 students and a student faculty ratio of 11:1. Coe is ranked among the top 20% of all colleges and universities (according to U.S. News & World Report), and hosts a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

Coe’s nearly 70-acre campus includes 40 buildings and serves as an urban field station creating opportunities for students and faculty to research and study interaction of the city with the campus environment. An extension of campus includes Coe’s Wilderness Field Station, which is situated on 120 acres of land in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. 

Recent capital improvement projects exceeding $40 million in investments include the renovation and expansion of Coe’s athletic facilities, renovation of Hickok Hall, an addition to and renovation of Peterson Hall of Science and renovation of Stewart Memorial Library to create the Learning Commons. 

For the past decade, nearly 100% of Coe graduates have been employed, in grad school, or engaging in public service within nine months of graduation. Our C3: Creativity, Careers, Community center is dedicated to working one-on-one with students to help them identify and land internship placements that match their unique interests and goals.
