Description:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Federico Pozzi (https://pt.phhp.ufl.edu/profile/pozzi-federico/) in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Florida. The successful candidate will also work closely with Dr. Sean Forbes (https://pt.phhp.ufl.edu/profile/forbes-sean/) on a collaborative project investigating whether magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy can provide non-invasive measures of vascularity and energetic status of the rotator cuff. This new position is funded by a research grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. The appointment is for two years (pending performance review after the first year). The laboratory aims to identify mechanisms associated with musculoskeletal shoulder pain. This knowledge will help us designing novel treatment strategies that will maximize patients’ functional recovery. We promote diversity and research integrity and encourage lab members to pursue activities outside of their research. Our strengths derive from bringing multidisciplinary researchers together and using a collegial approach to solve scientific problems.

Position Details: The successful candidate will perform clinical assessments of patients with rotator cuff tears, including ultrasound screening. This candidate will collaborate to develop the magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy data acquisition and analysis protocol. This position requires participation in experimental design, data collection, analysis and interpretation, preparation of oral and written scientific reports, preparation of materials for grant applications, and active involvement in other laboratory activities (laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, conferences, etc.). It is expected that the candidate will develop an independent grant application targeting foundation or NIH K-type mechanisms.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: A PhD (or equivalent) is required. Preferred Qualifications: Although a range of backgrounds will be considered, highly motivated individuals with strong backgrounds in bioengineering, rehabilitation science, movement science, biomechanics, or related field. Evidence of scientific productivity. Effective English written and oral communication skills. Understanding of biostatistics. Ability to work independently. Prior experience with human subject research.

Application Instructions:

Interested applicants should submit the following items as part of their online applications: curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests & career goals, a letter of interest, and the names and contact information of 3 references. Individuals with diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The expected start date is September 1, 2021, but it is flexible. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcript to the hiring department upon hire.  A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible.  Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.
