Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Biomedical & Diagnostic Sciences

Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 00

Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, The University of Tennessee, invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has a broad knowledge base and experience in infectious diseases and laboratory management. Our laboratory focus on unravelling the pathogenesis, improving diagnostics, and developing vaccines for bacterial pathogens with a primary focus on Leptospira. The incumbent is expected to actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research, publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, present results at conferences, seminars, and technical meetings, and assist in preparing grant proposals for funding. The candidate is expected to multi-task at a high level by performing genomics and proteomics research related to microbial diseases while supporting all aspects of laboratory function. Expereince in aseptic microbial culture techniques, cell culture practices, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing analysis, transcriptome sequencing and analysis, and next-generation sequencing methodology is desirable but not required.

This individual will also participate in training graduate/professional/undergraduate students, manage laboratory resources and equipment (ordering, equipment maintenance, etc.), while maintaining high health and safety standards. This individual is expected to prepare and maintain safety protocols and standards, write standard operating procedures applicable the research activities. Additional duties may be set in light of research needs and priorities. Proficiency in verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, willinigness to  collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment is expected.



Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum required qualification is a PhD. from a recognized institution. For candidates with a degree in veterinary medicine, the opportunity is available to get training in veterinary diagnostic microbiology to prepare for the ACVM board examination.
