Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Pacific Oaks College is looking for qualified individuals to provide support and mentorship as Adjunct Instructors for Online courses in the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts programs in the School of Human Development (HD). The Adjunct Faculty will provide instruction in the Undergraduate and/or Graduate Human Development degree programs, dependent on highest degree earned and years of experience teaching college level courses. Instruction for this position takes place entirely Online, utilizing the Canvas learning management system. This position will report directly to the Dean of Human Development, who is based out of the main campus in Pasadena.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate Online courses, in a specific field of expertise
  • Utilizing the Canvas learning management system to deliver course information, assignments, assignment feedback, class announcements, and other course management duties
  • Planning and creating Online lessons, discussions, and assignments
  • Grading assignments
  • Assessing grades for students based on participation, performance, and assignments
  • Collaborating with Faculty Course Leads on course curriculum
  • Advising Online students on how to be successful in class
  • Staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Master’s degree in related education or human services field; PhD preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in education or human services settings
  • Exemplary professional experience
  • Previous Online teaching experience
  • Knowledge of Canvas learning management system, and Zoom teleconferencing tool, a plus
  • Grade and provide feedback on all assignments within 5 days of the due date.
  • Facilitate and participate in the weekly discussion postings.
  • Actively respond to student emails and requests within 24-48 hours.
  • Post final grades by the College deadline.
  • Provide weekly announcements and overviews for each week of the course.
  • Identify and refer at-risk students to academic support services.
  • Participate in Adjunct trainings, Online meetings, Online events and other College requirements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in related education or human services field; PhD preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of exemplary professional experience working in education or human services settings
  • Previous experience teaching in the Online Modality
  • Knowledge of Canvas learning management system and Zoom teleconferencing tools, a plus
  • Communicate effectively using Canvas, Pacific Oaks College’s learning management system.
  • Proficiency in common internet tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to support the mission of Pacific Oaks College.
