Position Highlights:

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Assessment, Evaluation and Analytics, this employee will perform complex, professional level work in support of the development, implementation and regular evaluation of the College of Medicine curriculum. In addition, this position provides regular and ongoing support for student assessment practices. This position directly supports the processes for “educational quality control” of Curricular Affairs. Curricular Affairs develops and administers many of the educational programs and services at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine – Tucson, including our medical student curriculum from years 1 through 4, and is committed to strengthening and advancing the faculty and the curriculum via development programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee student performance assessment system across the undergraduate medical curriculum.
  • Coordinate and monitor administration of survey tools for assessment of student performance.
  • Develop/modify assessment instruments.
  • Assist faculty course directors with development, implementation and evaluation of student performance assessment methods in their courses.
  • Assist faculty with developing course/session objectives. Develop and monitor mapping of MD program learning objectives to COM-T Educational Program Objectives (EPOs). Advise course directors, faculty and staff on curricular policy related to assessment. Assist with creation and implementation of assessment policy.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology Services team on development of assessment and evaluation tools within learning management system.
  • Serve as a resource for COM-T Faculty Instructional Development office. Assist with faculty and resident training as it relates to student performance assessment.
  • Chair Exam Review Subcommittee, reviewing exam items prior to administration to ensure item quality and tighten association with the stated session learning objectives and EPO’s. Review student performance on pre-clerkship block exams, make recommendations for grading based on psychometric statistics.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to key committees, groups, and individuals with regard to assessment.
  • Support COM-T educational governance committees related to student performance assessment, provide assessment data, attend committee meetings, and provide as-needed support to additional educational governance committees.
  • Support the College’s program evaluation activities, which include assisting in developing benchmark factors, analyzing data for making recommendations and projections, and assessing potential implications; and preparing related reports.
  • Work closely with Assistant Dean of Assessment, Evaluation and Analytics to ensure program evaluation activities maintain alignment with goals of the COM-T.
  • Assist with evaluation of curriculum, particularly fourth year electives and clerkships.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, OR related field. *One or more years of experience in statistics, data management and analysis, OR related filed. *One or more years of experience using technology for collection, analysis, and reporting of data. *One or more years of experience with report writing and presentation for varied audiences. *Background in Medical Education. *Background in educational program evaluation. *Experience with New Innovations, Oasis, Entrada.
