The Department of Family Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Health Policy Center Communications Officer   position.

Jobs in this career family involve development, marketing and management of messaging to both internal and external parties. Functions include marketing; advertising; communications; publications; brand management; writing; editing; proofreading; graphic design; web information architecture, development and design; web content development; electronic communications; social media; news media/relations; public relations; photography; videography; radio/television broadcasting; FCC compliance; and communication projects management.

Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes.  These positions typically do not supervise others.

The FHPC is seeking a Communications Officer to develop and guide strategies and products for messaging to audiences critical to health policy and decision-making processes. This is a new position for the FHPC and with it brings opportunity to guide and implement a strategic framework for the center’s communications, media and marketing. We are looking for a strategist and talented writer to amplify our work with stories and visuals to advance policy solutions that improve health and achieve health equity. In this work, you will have opportunity and responsibility to dedicate your creative vision to problem solving for social impact, health and well-being.

The Communications Officer will promote and expand the Farley Health Policy Center’s reach, impact and brand among local, state, and national policymakers, key stakeholders, and across the Anschutz Medical Campus. Working with the FHPC executive director, Center coordinator, and team of policy researchers and analysts, the Communications Officer will help translate data and evidence into digestible policy content and messaging for issue briefs, press releases, blogs, social media and infographics to promote equitable policy development. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Developing and executing a communications and public relations strategy for the FHPC including brand, identity management and talking points; monitoring and reporting on effectiveness of communications strategies.
Managing media and public relations; strengthening relationships for FHPC faculty to engage media and stakeholders.
Developing and disseminating content for social and digital media, website, video or graphics.
Storytelling, developing narratives and presenting data in creative, visual and compelling ways
 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $59,608 - $75,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional level experience providing communications services, preferably in a healthcare, policy or higher education setting.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for policy writing, external communications and utilizing desktop publishing platforms.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Political campaign or community organizing experience

Experience with a federal or state legislative office or executive branch agency for health-related issues

• Academic or non-profit health research experience
• Experience with Sitefinity website maintenance
