Overview

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Tutoring Services Specialist, Fond du Lac Campus.  This position will coordinate a comprehensive tutoring program at the College’s three campuses and work collaboratively with the deans, faculty and employees in the Student Success Center.

 

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; however, initial review of applicants will take place July 5 2021.

 

Beginning: Immediately

 

Responsibilities1. Coordinate the delivery of services and activities as specified in the tutoring plan.  Ensure established procedures and processes for tutoring programs are followed. Maintain a tutoring program handbook and orientation materials.2. Coordinate with the Student Success Center to maximize resources and learning opportunities for students. Refer and guide students to appropriate services. Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences, and provide subject-specific content to help students. 3. Provide tutoring to students and carry out the tutor hiring and training process, online tutor request system and payroll reporting in collaboration with Human Resources and Payroll.   4. Serve as the main tutor contact for students. Coordinate tutor matches, and schedule students and tutors. Provide information to students and tutors about program requirements and ensure on-time delivery of textbooks and/or supplemental learning materials.  5. Provide ongoing support and training to increase success of service delivery.  Recommend study group leaders and Supplemental Instruction Leaders. Coordinate virtual tutoring programs and develop remote tutoring opportunities for students. 6. Research software and online tools for consideration of implementation to ensure tutoring resources are available, accessibility, ease of use and support student success. 7. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling inclusion for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences. Utilize inquiry-based strategies as the primary tutoring method to identify student needs and monitor progress.8. Prepare informational materials to promote the tutoring program and other academic success activities to students, faculty, and other service providers. Assist with faculty communications to ensure knowledge of and satisfaction with academic success services offered, conducting classroom visits to increase tutoring services and opportunities to become a tutor. 9. Work with the Associate Dean of Adult Education to prepare statistical and narrative reports regarding the success of the tutoring program. Conduct student pre- and post-comparative studies of grade point averages and course completion rates to determine effectiveness of tutoring services. Coordinate surveys for continuous improvement, collecting feedback from students and employees.  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications1. Associate’s Degree in a related field.   2. Two years of recent related occupational experience required.3. Any combination of equivalent training and experience which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities.4. Familiarity with educational settings, general public relations and technical colleges.5. Familiarity with student development theory and needs of two year college students preferred.6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.  7. Working knowledge of PC software in a windows environment.  Experience with MS Office, Outlook and the internet required.  Experience with Banner or other student administration systems preferred.  Prior experience using video conferencing and scanning technology.  8. Must be self-motivated, willing to take initiative and able to work independently. 9. Must have a strong interest in contributing to the success of the College, serving as an advocate for MPTC and academic success services.10. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) preferred.11. Ability to set up and maintain accurate, up-to-date files and records.12. Must have a valid WI Driver’s license.13. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
