Night Building Services Officer

Department of Security

Full-Time, Temporary, Non-Exempt, Hourly, Staff Appointment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide informational assistance, promote good public relations, and deliver exceptional customer service
• Conduct patrols on foot in the building and surrounding College property
• Secure building and respond to intrusion alarms and fire alarms
• Maintain an alertness for suspicious activities
• Deal with various levels of incidents as necessary, including first response in an emergency, administering First Aid or CPR
• Enforce College policies and complete necessary reports and paperwork
• Participate in on-the-job training
• Investigate assigned cases
• Provide a security presence at special events
• Monitor security systems, equipment, and alarms
• Walk through facility and pick up, spot clean as needed, respond to custodial requests
• Provide basic audio-visual support
• Complete event setup and cleanup for functions
• Take down furniture, trash bins, etc. for events and classes in common spaces
• Provide support of snow removal during and after storms
• Support emergency response/cleanup of biohazards, follow bloodborne pathogen protocols
• Comply with all safety rules, OSHA regulations
• Clean and maintain high visibility and first impression areas, including vacuuming high traffic areas as necessary
• Provide general cleaning and maintenance of assigned areas, complete/compose work orders, and accomplish project work as directed
• Trouble shoot simple building system and equipment issues and request appropriate assistance
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions
• Represent the department on committees as required
• Attend judicial hearings as required
• Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education are a plus
• Additional training, certifications or related experience in First Aid, CPR and AED (required within first 6 months), First Responders, Investigation, Conflict Resolution, and Law Enforcement and Security Officers Training Academy preferred
• Well-developed public relations skills able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situations
• Must be able to work independently, exercise judgment, and manage projects with minimal supervision as well as to adjust as new projects are assigned
• Ability to be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfill obligations
• Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable radios, computers, and closed circuit and access control systems
• Proven self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
• Attention to detail, dependability, and initiative required
• Ability to follow all safety rules and procedures is required
• Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
• Must present a neat, clean, and professional image
• Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Reporting to the assistant director of security, this position has high visibility and significant interactions with faculty, staff, students, community members, and other outside constituencies.

Hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, working off campus at the Lockwood Hotel. General indoor and outdoor campus environment. Position involves frequent movement, including walking, standing, bending, twisting, shoveling, reaching, and lifting. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The position requires a pre-employment physical. May require weekends and holidays.
