The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Mathematics at Georgia Southern University has an opening for a visiting instructor position in Biology for which we seek to make a hire for academic year 2021-2022. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus but travel to the Savannah or Hinesville Campuses is a possibility.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor of Biology will mostly teach introductory biology and microbiology courses. At Georgia Southern, visiting faculty teach fifteen contact hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and actively participate in departmental meetings. Collegiality is essential. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility of reappointment based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The second year would be a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.Required Qualifications:
1. Earned Master's Degree by August 1, 2021 in Biology, or a closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology
2. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
3. Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives
4. Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development
5. Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institutionPreferred Qualifications:
1. Earned doctoral degree by August 1, 2021 in Biology, or a closely related discipline
2. Experience preparing and teaching non-majors introductory biology courses
3. Experience preparing and teaching majors introductory biology courses
4. Experience preparing and teaching microbiology for the allied health sciences
5. Experience preparing and teaching online courses
