Summary of Duties:

The Institute of Biological Chemistry at Washington State University has multiple positions open for postdoctoral researchers in the Peters’ research group. We are a diverse group with multiple projects that study fundamental biochemistry related to solving key structural and mechanistic details of proteins such as hydrogenases, nitrogenases, carboxylases, and electron bifurcating enzymes. The postdoctoral positions would involve collaboration with other members of the lab in addition to other institutions to analyze and define the mechanisms of bioinorganic enzymes. The selected candidate will design and conduct experiments in the lab, analyze data, prepare project reports, and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals. The selected candidate will also be expected to provide training for undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in biochemistry or equivalent.

  • Expertise in protein purification and characterization by biophysical methods.

  • Effective written and oral skill, which includes communication with others from different fields and backgrounds.

  • Be a motivated and creative individual.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in anaerobic techniques including expression, purification, and sample preparation under strictly anaerobic conditions.

  • Experience in protein crystallography including crystal preparation and data analysis.

  • Experience with various instrumentation such as FPLC, HPLC, and UV-Vis.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
