Job Overview

Responsible for areas relating to the recruitment, evaluation, and enrollment of undergraduate liberal arts students. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. We seek candidates with a strong sense of initiative, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and who are eager to achieve team and individual goals. The Admissions Counselor reports to the Recruitment Team Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Regularly communicates by phone and email with prospective students and their parents from initial inquiry through enrollment. Provides timely information about Wheaton College and answer inquiries about application procedures, college programs, credentials, status of applications, and application decisions. 
  • Recruits prospects, including those from historically underrepresented populations and backgrounds, from assigned application segment to apply, visit, and enroll at Wheaton College; provide increased personal contact.   
  • Conducts information sessions, campus tours, and interviews (on-campus, off-campus, and via telephone). 
  • Represents Wheaton at college fairs, high schools, and other recruitment events, as directed.
  • Plans and implements out of state recruitment travel, as assigned.
  • Reads, summarizes, and provides initial evaluation of liberal arts applications within assigned segment of the applicant pool.
  • Makes initial recommendations to the Director of Admissions regarding the admissibility of applicants within assigned segment of applicant pool. Actively participates in the decision-making process of the Admissions Committee.
  • Provides input to the Assistant Director on the admissions process, suggesting ways to improve recruitment efforts.
  • Cultivates strategic connections with churches, high schools, and guidance counselors in designated region.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree. Familiarity with Wheaton College and Christian liberal arts education preferred
  • Strong communication, decision-making and organization skills
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with details, ability to manage many tasks
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed. Approximately 3-5 weeks of travel per academic year
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Previous work experience preferred, but not required

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
