Serve as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, assume the responsibilities of the Director for Strength and Conditioning in his absence. Responsible for specific sports, volunteers and interns as assigned. Makes independent decisions daily regarding the strength and conditioning program planning and execution for his/her assigned sport teams and individuals; these decisions are based upon the strength and conditioning coach’s knowledge base in the field, the sport, the position and/or event, and the individual student-athlete. Works with sports medicine in the development of post-acute long term return to play protocols of injured athletes. This position has a lead role and provides direction and guidance to student interns, volunteer coaches, and student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply fully with all NCAA, ASUN (or other conference) and Stetson University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
  • Coordinate and develop yearly strength and conditioning programs as assigned by the Director of Strength and Conditioning. Develop and implement instructional plans and, within these instructional plans, address any special needs/issues of individual student-athletes and for student-athletes in their areas of specialization; instructional plans will include the areas of strength training, conditioning, speed development, agility, flexibility, and nutrition; all instruction must include education on proper technique; all instruction must be done within the parameters of the established policies and procedures of the weight room. This includes development and implementation of rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes in collaboration with the sports medicine staff. Meet with assigned sports coaches regularly to review and discuss any and all aspects of their strength and conditioning program; close communication with sport coaches is essential and must be done in a timely manner.
  • Travel and weekend work may be required
  • Meet with prospective student athletes and parents about the strength and conditioning program, and answer any and all questions regarding this area
  • Implement and enforce all policies and procedures of the weight room
  • Keep the weight room clean and organized at all times
  • Maintain order and safety in the weight room
  • Equipment maintenance and repair
  • Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree

Required Skills
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
  • Nationally recognized certification such as CSCS, SCCC required
  • Nutrition coach certification preferred
  • Effective communication skills are essential
  • Ability to motivate student-athletes in both a group and individual setting is essential
  • Ability to use basic computer programs
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field; master's degree preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics in strength and conditioning
  • Must have knowledge of applicable NCAA rules
