Position Summary:

This position provides academic advisement for the College of Public Health programs in: environmental health, health promotion, disaster management, global health, health policy and management, and public health.
Employee will be familiar with University degree requirements and academic advisement procedures. Ability to interpret academic transcripts and clearly communicate degree requirements and options, plan programs of study, propose solutions to academic problems and discuss possible careers with students. Skilled in oral/written communication. Possess good interpersonal relations and patience in working with students. Ability to appropriately schedule time and organize records. Word processing and data-base management using Microsoft Office: ability to use SAGE, DegreeWorks, and Athena student management systems for student advisement; knowledge of e-mail, internet and other software used by the University. Excellent teamwork skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Advise students on an individual basis in planning a program of study. Troubleshoot student questions on procedures, timetables, requirements, substitutions, and deadlines for all of the majors, minors, and certificates within public health. Help students understand programs of study and comply with institutional requirements, policies, and procedures.

Maintain hours for walk-in students to address general questions. Allocate time for responding to student questions submitted electronically (e.g., email). Meet with prospective students. Develop and maintain advisement files and data management via UGA computer software. Communicate with the College Student Affairs Office concerning any major changes, policy updates, or university mandates.
