Job Description Summary:
The full-time Economics Faculty position will instruct freshman and sophomore level economics courses including, Introduction to Microeconomics and Introduction to Macroeconomics. The faculty member will also be called upon to teach other courses in the School of Business curriculum as applicable to the final candidate's credentials and experiences. The position's base teaching load is 15 credits per semester (fall and spring).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the lead faculty for the Economics courses at SMC; bearing responsibility for the design, content, implementation, assessment, and offerings in the discipline
  • Facilitates high quality instruction through the delivery of course content and materials
  • Maintains rigor and relevancy of the content and assures compliance with MTA and other articulations
  • Utilizes active and collaborative learning strategies and a variety of other pedagogies to engage learners
  • Maintains standing as a subject matter expert by remaining current and connected to the field
  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to every student's success
  • Utilizes student-centered learning practices
  • Advises and mentors students
  • Mentors part time faculty
  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to diversity and treats others fairly, with courtesy, and respect
  • Serves as a contributing member to the School of Business and Advanced Technology
  • Participates in recruiting, retaining, developing, and graduating students
  • Serves each semester in at least two of the following: college committee member, club advisor or co-advisor, program lead/outcomes coordinator, and/or course lead/outcomes coordinator for a multi-section course
  • Participates in institutional training required of all full-time employees at the College
  • Adheres to institutional policies and procedures and recommends changes where needed
  • Brings credit to Southwestern Michigan College through demonstrating the highest level of professionalism

    Required Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Economics


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree (or higher) in Economics
    • Teaching experience at the college level
    • Online teaching certification
    • Online teaching experience


    Other Information:
    All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.
