Overview and Responsibilities

The Educational Technology Specialist (Technology Professional Developer) is responsible for the technical training and development of CVTC employees. This position is responsible for the evaluation of technology used throughout the college and providing best practices to faculty and staff. The Educational Technology Specialist will obtain information needed to facilitate in-house training programs, prepare training materials, and provide recommendations on technology utilization. The Educational Technology Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Professional Development (CPD), contributes to CPD team goals, and works in partnership to the Instructional Technologist.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide training and best practices for various systems and technologies used by CVTC faculty and staff (e.g., Canvas, Google G Suite, WebEx, SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, instructional technology).
  • Provide primary back-up administration for Canvas, CVTC’s Learning Management System.
  • Develop and deliver on-demand technology trainings in multiple formats.
  • Provide technology onboarding to new faculty.
  • Provide one-on-one technology training in the CPD open lab.
  • Develop and create technology help guides and online support resources in multiple formats including e-learning tutorials.
  • Provide primary support and training of Cognos reporting system and Qualtrics survey software.
  • Provide primary system administration, training, and support for MyTalent (SumTotal) professional development tracking system.
  • Provide primary backup for scribing program curriculum and student education planning in Degree Works in partnership with Curriculum Analyst and IT.
  • Design and update CPD website as primary source of communicating CPD initiatives and resources with the college.
  • Assist with preparation of large-scale CPD activities (e.g., in-services, academies, Professional Growth grant, etc.).
  • Set-up, support, and train on CVTC’s learning glass system used for creating instructional videos.
  • Keep current with updates to software/systems and continually improve upon campus technologies.
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure training aligns with college initiatives, IT systems, software release, employee needs, requests, and survey results.
  • Market CPD and technology products and services to employees. Use appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance of a product, services, or policies from employees.

  • Advanced knowledge of and skills with instructional technology and technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision-making including, but not limited to, Google G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Training and Development, Education, Technology, Distance Learning, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in training and development or teaching.
  • Experience using resource management software, learning management system and instructional technology.
  • Software system administration experience and e-learning authoring experience using Articulate Storyline 360 or similar preferred.

Location and Campuses

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and serves an eleven-county area in west central Wisconsin. The largest campus is located in Eau Claire and includes a Business Education Center and Health Education Center, plus a Manufacturing Education Center at the Gateway Campus and an Emergency Service Education Center and Energy Education Center at the West Campus. CVTC has regional centers in Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, Neillsville, and River Falls. The College is one of 16 WTCS colleges located throughout the state.

Student Profile

Student enrollment exceeds 8,000 credit students per year, plus over 9,000 non-credit students, with full-time equivalents of over 4,000. The median age of credit students is 24. Approximately 68% of students receive financial aid and 44% are Pell Grant students.

Programs and Placement

CVTC offers 110 programs, 35 certificates, and customized training to an average of 140 businesses annually. CVTC has an outstanding placement rate, 95% of graduates are employed within six months of graduation, with 87% in a related field. CVTC has nationally recognized faculty and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Business and industry leaders serve on advisory committees and help CVTC match its curriculum to the needs of today's workplace.
